A leading research institute in Trieste is seeking an IT support technician to assist in maintaining and upgrading the network infrastructure. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma in IT, relevant experience, and strong communication skills in English and Italian. Responsibilities include user assistance, troubleshooting, and system configuration in a dynamic team environment. This is a fixed-term contract of 12 months with competitive salary based on experience.

Overview

The IT Group at Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste delivers services to support research activities across scientific, technical, and administrative areas. The network infrastructure and the interactions between servers and clients are a key element that must be available, efficient, and reliable. The growing importance of cybersecurity makes a robust network essential for protecting the systems. The successful candidate will join the ICT Systems and Services team, providing support under the guidance of senior technicians to maintain and upgrade the existing IT infrastructure, ensuring it remains efficient, secure, and capable of delivering better and faster services to Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste.

Responsibilities

• Assist users, configure systems, and troubleshoot issues while progressively taking on more complex tasks and addressing emerging needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma (EQF Level 4) in IT-related subjects, or an equivalent qualification with at least one year of experience in IT.
• Technical skills include:
• Knowledge of network communication principles.
• Familiarity with major operating systems (Linux, macOS, Windows).
• Experience with network cabling and devices.
• Understanding of virtualization fundamentals.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity basics for operating systems and networks.
• Additional IT and networking experience will be considered a plus.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Relational skills should include active listening, empathy, and patience to interact successfully with non-technical users.
• Good time management and prioritization, with the ability to interact with facility staff and international users at all levels and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Excellent oral and written communication in English (minimum level B2) and Italian (mother tongue or C1 level).

Contract and Application Details

• The appointment is a fixed-term contract of 12 months, extendable by mutual agreement. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
