The Head Barista is responsible for leading, training, and supervising baristas to ensure consistent service quality, service and product excellence, and adherence to brand standards. This role oversees the daily coffee operations, supports barista performance, ensures hygiene compliance, and contributes to continuous product improvement and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Supervision: Oversee day‑to‑day barista operations
- Ensure coffee shop adheres to company SOPs for beverage preparation, cleanliness, and service standards.
- Conduct regular quality assurance and control to monitor consistency and quality.
- Coordinate barista scheduling to ensure sufficient coverage and efficient operations.
- Lead and mentor a team of baristas, ensuring high morale and professional growth.
- Conduct regular training sessions on coffee preparation, customer service, and hygiene.
- Support the recruitment and onboarding of new baristas (later).
- Evaluate barista performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Maintain consistent quality and presentation of all coffee and beverage products.
- Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of all coffee machines and equipment.
- Conduct regular taste checks and audits.
- Monitor stock levels of coffee beans, milk, syrups, and barista supplies.
- Coordinate with the purchase team for timely replenishment.
- Prevent wastage and ensure cost‑effective usage of ingredients.
- Handle escalated customer feedback or complaints related to beverages or barista service.
- Promote a welcoming and friendly environment for all guests.
- Assist in introducing new beverages and seasonal specials.
- Prepare weekly reports on beverage sales, customer feedback, staff issues, and inventory.
- Coordinate with the Floor Supervisor/Operations Manager and other departments as needed.
- Implement company promotions and marketing activities related to beverages.
Qualifications
- High School, hospitality or F&B or SCA certification is a plus.
- Minimum 3‑5 years of experience as a senior barista or head barista, preferably with supervisory experience.
- Able to perform service excellence.
- Understand basic taste of coffee or cupping protocol.
- Expert knowledge of coffee types, brewing methods, and latte art.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- High attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to manage time efficiently across multiple locations.
- Strong understanding of hygiene and food safety standards.
- Ability to create a new beverage for seasonal release.
- Background as bartender is a plus.
Working Condition
- Ability to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
