Job description
Global Lead Medical Affairs Gastroenterology (m/f/d)

The Global Lead Medical Affairs - Gastroenterology (GLMAG) is a board‑certified, fellowship‑trained gastroenterologist with expertise in endoscopy and a strong clinical practice background. This role combines deep knowledge in Gastroenterology, medical affairs, and leadership to provide expert guidance to the Gastroenterology business. Key responsibilities include leading medical strategy development, supporting the global leadership team, and integrating diagnostic and therapeutic technologies to improve patient access and clinical outcomes. The GLMAG will engage with global stakeholders, such as physicians, payors, and health systems, while ensuring the perspectives of both patients and providers are central to the decision‑making process. The ideal candidate will bring a strategic mindset, hands‑on operational involvement, and strong teamwork, with the ability to influence in matrixed environments. A humble and inquisitive approach, along with servant leadership skills, is essential for success in this role.

Your Responsibilities
  • Provide medical insights for Gastroenterology strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives through internal/external engagements
  • Subject matter expert in applied medicine within Gastroenterology, covering the entire product lifecycle
  • Support clinical investigations: collaborate with Clinical Affairs to develop study designs and provide therapeutic expertise
  • Contribute to clinical evaluations: support the Clinical Evaluation team with literature strategy, data appraisal, and regulatory reports
  • Enhance patient care coordination across conditions, providers, and settings to improve safety, effectiveness, and equity
  • Support health economics research for market access, including reimbursement and coding strategies
  • Provide insights on patient care pathways, scientific communication, and publication strategies
  • Advocate for Gastroenterology business needs in MSA strategy, SOPs, training, and infrastructure
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams: engage with teams like Medical Safety, Infection Control, Legal, Finance, HR, etc.
  • Contribute to promotional material reviews: provide clinical insights to ensure alignment with current medical practice
  • Provide medical/scientific input to Business Development, R&D, and marketing strategies
  • Guide digital product design: offer expertise in the medical implications for digital solutions and acquisitions
Your Qualifications
  • Medical Doctor (MD) degree with several years of demonstrated independent clinical practice experience
  • Gastroenterology Fellowship trained and Board Certified is a must‑have
  • Additional advanced degrees (PhD, MS, MBA, MPH) desired
  • Active participation in a Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program and active medical license are required
  • 10–12+ years of experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or medical device industry, with expertise in medical affairs, medical strategy, and regulatory processes
  • Deep knowledge of Gastroenterology and global medical affairs, clinical evidence development, and healthcare systems
  • Proven success in product support and providing strategic insights for commercialization plans
  • Experience executing medical/scientific plans addressing stakeholder needs and clinical practice on a global scale
  • Ability to understand evolving market access and healthcare issues
  • Experience working in matrixed organizations, collaborating with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong ability to synthesize complex data and communicate strategically
  • Experience working with global cross‑functional teams and understanding cultural differences
  • Leadership experience in hiring, nurturing, and retaining diverse teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus
  • Flexible schedule to work across multiple time zones (EST, CET, JST)
  • Domestic and international travel 40–50%, including weekend and evening travel as needed
