Blue Alliance Marine Protected Areas is an international non-profit dedicated to the management of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), to benefit people & wildlife. We work with governments to build and manage MPAs that regenerate coral reef ecosystems and replenish degraded fisheries / improve the lives of local communities. As of 2025, Blue Alliance, with local partners, manage 4 large MPAs in Indonesia, Philippines and Tanzania- preserving 2,000,000 ha of high-biodiverse coral reefs, protecting >60 endangered species and improving livelihoods of >30,000 coastal community members. New MPAs are in preparation. Blue Alliance oversees the day-to-day co-management of the Marine Protected Area network in Banggai (Central Sulawesi) and soon in Maluku province. Main activities include Community Development & Engagement, Biodiversity Conservation & Science, Management & Infrastructure and Law Compliance.
In parallel, Blue Alliance develops a portfolio of 3 reef-positive businesses in and around the Conservation Areas in community-based aquaculture, sustainable eco-tourism, and responsible fishery. This is an attractive opportunity for someone to join an exponentially growing company with a management team that is driven, ambitious, and passionate. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Finance to oversee the day-to-day financial aspects of the management conservation areas and the portfolio of social enterprises. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing cross‑functional teams, developing and implementing financial strategies, and optimizing business processes to drive growth and profitability.
Reporting Lines: The Finance Director reports to the head office finance director and collaborates with the senior Management team of the conservation areas and social enterprises.
Who you are: Must have at least 5 years’ experience of working in a senior leadership role (staff management included). You are able to make financial recommendations to improve overall performance. Accounting qualification and management information systems skills appreciated.
Previous experience in non‑profit organizations is an advantage.
You also demonstrate willingness to travel and a genuine interest in field activities to support financial operations.
You must speak fluently Bahasa as well as English.
IMPORTANT: You must be willing to travel in the province to assist with financial operations.
General Duties and Responsibilities
1 Management Team Member
- Is a key member of the senior Management team;
- Works across all entities to enhance and improve core organizational business functions;
- Contributes to the development of Blue Alliance’s strategic goals and works collaboratively with management to achieve them;
- Assists in institutional relationship management.
2 Strategic Leadership and Governance
- Develops and implements strategic objectives per entity that are aligned with the group’s strategic objectives and initiatives;
- Works with the different Managers (Reef‑positive businesses, Blue Alliance) and Directors of Department (science, ecotourism, others if any) to prepare the strategic financial plan;
- Defines the 3‑year financial plan for each program with the regular financial projections and cash plan.
3 Finance and Accounting Management
i) Finance & Financial Control
- Ensures that all programs have adequate funding and liquidity according to their financial plan, annual budgets and evolving local needs;
- Ensures monthly reporting of financial situation of all entities, and cash flow projections;
- Identifies any deviance from the financial plan and/or annual budget and works with the respective management teams to clarify the underlying reasons and propose remediation measures;
- Participates in the procurement processes via confirmation of budgets and/or validation of special requests.
ii) Accounting & Procurement Control
- Ensures that all entities have adequate accounting practices in terms of managing the accounting system, recording transactions, managing the bank accounts and the petty cash;
- Monitors on regular basis the procurement processes, practices of the different entities, and banking activities;
- Ensures regular reconciliations between the accounting system and the bank accounts;
- Monitors payments due to suppliers and due by customers / partners and ensures timely payments;
- Coordinates with the different administration teams / departments and monitors the management of the fixed asset registries and valuations;
- Ensures legal and tax compliance with respect to filing and payments of all institutional taxes and duties.
4 Compliance and filing
- Reviews the practices of all entities in terms of compliance with the various policies, procedures and manuals on regular basis;
- Ensures social, legal and tax compliance with respect to filing and payments of all institutional taxes and duties, including social contributions;
- Ensures renewal of business permits and licenses.
5 Stakeholders Management & Reporting
- Reports regularly on local programs progress versus the annual budgets;
- Reports on ad hoc basis any significant deviance from the original plans and proposes remediation measures and/or adjustments to the plans;
- Develops good relations with local and international external stakeholders to ensure sound conditions for the group development.
6 Human Resources (HR)
- Reviews the practices of all entities in terms of compliance with the various policies, procedures and manuals on regular basis;
- Supervises monthly payroll, bonuses and social contributions payments;
- Defines with the senior Management team the right staff management framework (performance management, financial / non‑financial incentives and payroll, capacity building, general working conditions and discipline management);
- Works with the senior Management team to adapt and implement the standards in each program.
- Oversees recruitment and screening services to ensure fair, transparent, and compliant hiring practices.
7 Frameworks and Tools
- Develops and implements standard frameworks and tools for the group to work efficiently. The scope shall encompass at least (not exhaustive):
- Project management frameworks and tools (local or international projects to introduce new products / services)
- Shared technical platforms for co‑working (emails and calendars, folder and file management, internal and external communication tools excluding marketing tools)
