Job description

The East Learning Disability Team offers an exciting opportunity for a Social Worker to join us in a permanent role. This part-time position (21.5 hours) is based at Princess of Wales Hospital in Ely, with the option for home working as part of a hybrid role.

The Cambridgeshire Learning Disability Partnership (LDP) brings together specialist health and social care services for people with a learning disability.

The successful candidates will contribute to this unique model of practice as part of an integrated team alongside Health and Social Care Practitioners such as Adult Support Co-ordinators, Social Workers, Community Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Psychiatrist, Speech and Language Therapists and Art / Music Therapists.

The LDP are currently working to a hybrid model in line with our service needs. Following an induction period, our Social Workers will work from the office up to three days each week. This gives our Social Workers a quiet space and plenty of time for reflection whilst still balancing collaborative working across the multi-disciplinary team and peer support. It has also increased our Social Workers autonomy and has had a positive impact on wellbeing and work-life balance.

Cambridgeshire County Council has adopted a new approach to social work and social care to make it increasingly proactive, preventative, and personalised. Transforming Lives is a three-tier approach to working with individuals, carers, and families that considers holistic, creative solutions to enable individuals to meet their aspirations through the care and support planning process.

For more information or to chat about this opportunity please contact Michelle Yearsley on michelle.yearsley@cambridgeshire.gov.uk .

Please note that, starting in 2026, the office will relocate from the Princess of Wales Hospital to Noble House, Ely.

Interviews are planned for the week commencing the 05 th of January '26.

We know that your time is precious, so our interviews are generally held virtually, by Microsoft Teams, to provide the most flexible recruitment process. We may include a virtual assessment as part of this, but we’ll give you all the relevant information ahead of time.

We are looking for exceptional experienced Social Workers to join us on our journey. For an informal discussion about our vacancies, contact Beth on 01480 372 425 or e-mail welovesocialworkers@cambridgeshire.gov.uk .

Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We are proud to serve the diverse communities of Cambridgeshire and want our workforce to be reflective of this diversity, which we believe benefits our employees, the organisation and our communities.

Our benefits

We value our colleagues in Cambridgeshire County Council and have developed a number of benefits in addition to the basics like annual leave, sick pay, pension and mileage.

  • A comprehensive wellbeing package to cover all aspects of wellbeing, both in and out of work, which can also be accessed by your family.
  • 6 days of protected time each year to support in maintaining your Continuous Professional Development.
  • A pay progression scheme to enable you to accelerate through the pay grade as you gain experience and skills.
  • ARefer a Friend Scheme where if you refer another Social Worker to us who is subsequently employed by us as a result of that introduction, we’ll pay you an introduction fee of £350.
  • Access to development opportunities, apprenticeships and qualified coaches to support your personal and professional growth.

For more information and to see our other benefits, take a look at the benefits brochure attached to this advert.

What will you be doing?

You will be undertaking Social Care and Mental Capacity Act assessments, completing Safeguarding as well as care and support planning, to achieve better outcomes for the adults we support. You will also be completing Community deprivation of liberty applications to the Court of Protection. You’ll need to be inquisitive and provide evidence based, proportionate recording with a keen focus on strength-based practice.

As you’ll be working with adults, both those in need of care and support services, along with their informal carers, it will be crucial that you work in partnership with them to establish needs and ensure that they are met.

About you

We are looking for people who can demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, have the ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and are committed to making a positive difference for the people we support. The successful candidates will have excellent organisational skills and be willing to use their initiative to work in innovative ways.

You must:

  • Be an experienced qualified Social Worker with a Social Work England registration
  • Can work from a variety of locations and travel countywide independently

For a full list of the requirements of the role, please check out the Job Description and Person Specification.
