To assist the Pre-Operative Assessment Lead Nurse in the running of a high quality and effective pre-assessment service that provides the highest standards of care, safety and service to patients, relatives and other customers. To be responsible for the delivery of the day-to-day provision of the pre-assessment service.

• To provide all patient pre-assessments, liaising as appropriate with other clinical professionals e.g. Consultants, anaesthetists etc.
• To provide clinical expertise of the highest calibre to ensure the highest standards of nursing care are consistently provided to all patients attending the pre-assessment department.
• Assess patients' health and wellbeing across a complex variety of specialities.
• Assist in the delivery of care to meet individuals' health and wellbeing needs.
• Provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information.
• Develop own knowledge and skills and that of others.
• Promote best practice in health and safety and security.
• Assist in maintaining and developing services.
• Contribute to quality improvement.
• Promote people's equality, diversity and rights.
• Acknowledge the risk of Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) and understand own responsibility as agreed with line manager in the prevention and control of HCAI.
• Maintain standards of infection control within the hospital and own department and assist patients to maintain their own infection control needs.
• Provide advice, guidance and support to junior staff by maintaining professional standards to ensure the delivery of high quality care.
• Deputise for senior staff when required.

• Adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct and Spire Policies, Procedures, Protocols and Standards at all times.
• Ensure that Clinical Governance and risk management are embedded within daily practice.

• Registered Nurse with NMC registration (essential).
• Significant nursing experience with some pre-assessment experience.
• Working towards a post-registration qualification in a clinical specialism.
• Mentorship qualification (beneficial).
• Competence across a range of nursing skills, supported by professional and clinical knowledge.
• Mandatory training for role including infection control and health and safety competencies.
• Able to demonstrate the principles of accountable practice.
• Knowledge of external standards and bodies (e.g., Care Quality Commission).
• Able to apply clinical reasoning to complex and varied patient case mixes.
• Equipment and Medical Devices Competences.
• Root Cause Analysis knowledge.
