Job summary
A global leader in cancer diagnostics is seeking a Principal R&D Scientist to drive technical excellence in Companion Diagnostics development. The role involves leading Diagnostic projects and providing mentorship to R&D colleagues. Ideal candidates will have experience in Companion Diagnostics, knowledge of FDA regulations, and a robust professional network in the life sciences community. This is an on-site position in Newcastle, UK.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in Companion Diagnostics product development, ideally in an R&D or regulated environment.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and manage external stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of FDA and BSI regulatory frameworks.
- Track record of mentoring technical competence.
Responsibilities
- Make technical recommendations influencing R&D strategy.
- Lead set-up and execution of Diagnostics projects.
- Provide guidance on collaborating with Pharma partners.
- Oversee technical project outputs for scientific integrity.
- Mentor R&D colleagues and support team development.

Due to continued growth and new partnerships, we are now looking for a Principal R&D Scientist with a specific focus on Companion Diagnostics. This position is an on-site position in Newcastle, UK.
Reporting to the R&D Manager, this role plays a key part in driving technical excellence and strategic innovation across Diagnostics projects. This is a hands‑on role where you will combine deep technical expertise with leadership and mentoring, helping to shape the future direction of diagnostic product development.
- Make technical recommendations that influence the company’s future R&D strategy.
- Take a leading role in the set‑up and execution of Diagnostics projects, defining a clear scientific direction.
- Provide best‑practice guidance on managing and collaborating with Pharma partners.
- Oversee the review and approval of technical project outputs, ensuring scientific integrity.
- Offer mentorship and guidance to R&D colleagues, supporting capability development across the team.
- Proven experience in Companion Diagnostics product development, ideally within an R&D or regulated environment.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and manage external stakeholders, including Pharma partners.
- Solid understanding of FDA and BSI regulatory frameworks.
- A track record of mentoring and developing technical competence in others.
- Skilled in troubleshooting complex scientific and technical challenges.
- Strong professional network within the diagnostics or life sciences community.
- Experience in managing elements of technical project work within a multidisciplinary R&D environment.
