Job description
Overview

The Microbiology service is centred on William Harvey Hospital and provides bacteriology, virology, molecular, parasitology and mycology diagnostic tests for acute sites and community services. The service is ISO 15189 accredited and recognised by IBMS and the National School for Healthcare Science for training. We are a dynamic, diverse team with ongoing training for Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Trainee Clinical Scientists, Senior and Consultant clinical scientists, Senior Clinical Fellows and apprentices at several levels. The department promotes inclusivity, staff development, and continuous improvement, with forward-thinking service and quality improvement plans. There are opportunities to develop new career pathways, including dual registration as a clinical scientist.

Two full-time, substantive Senior Biomedical Scientist (Band 7) vacancies are available. Suitable candidates must be HCPC registered and hold a Level 7 qualification in a relevant subject. The role requires full participation in 7-day working and on-call rotas.

Role context

Location: William Harvey Hospital, part of East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust (EKHUFT). This role is aligned with the EKHUFT network, with opportunities to collaborate within the network while not requiring work at sites outside EKHUFT.
