Overview
The Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences (SIPBS) seeks to appoint a Research Associate in Data Science who will contribute to our research portfolio. The position is part-time on a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2027 (0.6 FTE, 21 hours per week).
Responsibilities
- Support and contribute to the Pharmacoepidemiology and Healthcare Research Group's expanding programme, including but not limited to the Cancer Medicines Outcomes Programme - Public Health Scotland collaboration (CMOP-PHS).
- Curate, access, manage and analyse large secondary healthcare datasets; lead the design and execution of pharmacoepidemiologic studies.
- Develop research objectives and proposals under the guidance of a research leader; conduct individual and collaborative research.
- Identify sources of funding, contribute to securing funds, draft grant proposals, and plan for future proposals.
- Write up research work for publication and disseminate results via peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
- Engage with external networks to share information, inform research objectives, and identify funding opportunities.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure research informs departmental teaching, knowledge exchange activities, and potential public policy impact.
- Co-supervise student projects, advise students, and contribute to teaching as required (e.g., tutorials and practical supervision).
- Contribute to Department/School/Faculty/University administration and committees and engage in continuous professional development.
Qualifications
- PhD in an appropriate discipline, or significant relevant experience plus a relevant degree, or preferably independent postdoctoral experience.
- Solid knowledge in pharmacoepidemiology, statistics, and data analytics, with specific experience in the R programming language for statistical analysis.
- Ability to plan and organise workload effectively and to work within a team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to present complex information accessibly to diverse audiences.
- Developing ability to prepare research proposals and disseminate results; ability to contribute to grant proposals and future funding opportunities.
- Desirable but not essential: relevant work experience, membership of relevant Chartered/professional bodies (including the Higher Education Academy), experience of student supervision and teaching activities, and/or knowledge-exchange activities.
