Job description
Overview

A Vacancy at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fixed term 12 months contract, commencing ASAP. This is a Senior Fellow in O&G role based at Princess Anne Hospital, with clinically oriented research alongside obstetrics and gynaecology training, including on-call duties.

Princess Anne Hospital provides a wide spectrum of women’s services, including emergency O&G care, outpatient facilities, and a developing consultant-led acute gynaecology service. It operates alongside Southampton General Hospital, offering local secondary services and tertiary-level expertise across the Wessex region.

Division C of UHS R&D, under Prof. Ying Cheong, delivers robust research infrastructure to facilitate translational clinical studies. You will collaborate with the Developmental Physiology & Medicine group at the University of Southampton, joining cutting-edge basic and clinical research in pregnancy, maternal-fetal physiology, and related translational themes.

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve your career goals. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and was in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care in the latest NHS Staff Survey.

We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. UHS employees have access to NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Southampton is a vibrant city on the south coast with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and the Jurassic Coast beaches are nearby. The city offers living costs that are lower than London and a number of highly rated schools.

Please see the Job Description and Person Specification for full details. The attached documents include the key responsibilities, role expectations, and the qualifications required. They are designed to help you assess how your skills, experience, and professional background align with the role’s requirements.

Specific criteria for the role are outlined to support application preparation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust-appointed (non-training) fellow doctors and dentists. Applicants requiring Skilled Worker sponsorship should ensure they meet Home Office criteria prior to submitting an application.

Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, with a named educational supervisor at the start of the post. Continued Professional Development (CPD) is supported, with options to take study leave.

Grades for Trust-appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid at a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, as set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular.
