We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher who will use molecular methods to explore the expression of voltage-gated calcium channels in the brain and their relevance to bipolar disorder and other psychiatric disorders. Methods include long-read sequencing, PCR, and Basescope. The postholder will participate in bioinformatic analyses and liaise with researchers investigating other aspects of these channels, including pharmacologists and cell biologists.
What We Offer As an employer, we care about our employees’ wellbeing, reflected in benefits such as:
The post is available on a flexible hybrid basis, with a minimum of 2 days/week on-site.
The position is based in the Department of Psychiatry at Warneford Hospital, covering maternity leave until 31 January 2026 or until the substantive postholder returns or resigns. It is a full-time role, with options for part-time (minimum 80% FTE). Although a Grade 7 position, candidates with less experience seeking development opportunities may be considered at Grade 6 (£36,024-£44,263 p.a.), with responsibilities adjusted accordingly.
You will conduct molecular neurobiological experiments, including Nanopore long-read RNA sequencing and PCR, collaborating with team members and maintaining detailed electronic lab records.
You will have or be close to completing a PhD/DPhil in psychology or a relevant field. Experience with RNA from tissues or cells, and molecular biology techniques like reverse transcription and PCR, is required. Experience with brain tissues and RNA-sequencing is desirable. Strong record-keeping and collaborative skills are essential.
We are committed to equality and valuing diversity. Our Psychiatry People and Culture initiatives aim to make the department supportive, welcoming, and inclusive.
