Job Description:
Under the direction of the Dean and Associate Dean, the Instructor, Criminal Justice, is responsible for providing instruction in Student Success, Homeland Security, and other Criminal Justice courses in online, hybrid, or classroom settings. Teaching assignments include courses such as Introduction to Homeland Security, Threat Assessment, Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Police and Society, among others. The instructor develops course objectives, implements various teaching strategies, advises students, monitors progress, and maintains accurate records. Instruction may be delivered in person, online, or hybrid, primarily at the Lincoln Campus, with possible teaching at other campuses within the service area.
Essential Functions
- Provide Instruction: Deliver courses in assigned subject areas using diverse instructional strategies suitable for face-to-face and online formats. Develop curriculum for online delivery and participate in related training.
- Student Evaluation and Record Keeping: Prepare assessments and maintain records on attendance, achievement, and progress.
- Stay Current: Keep up-to-date with developments in related fields through professional development activities.
- Participate in College Activities: Attend meetings, serve on committees, and engage in college initiatives.
- Academic Advising: Assist students with course selection, registration, and academic progress.
- Curriculum Development: Develop and revise course content, objectives, and policies in collaboration with the Program Chair.
- Division Engagement: Interact positively with colleagues, students, and staff to promote the program and college image.
- Additional Responsibilities: Provide data for supplies, equipment, and scheduling; develop individual development plans; engage in professional growth; promote a culture of belonging; operate audiovisual equipment; perform related duties as assigned; and teach at various locations as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of and ability to teach Criminal Justice courses.
- At least two years of relevant work experience.
- Ability to develop diverse teaching strategies for various formats.
- Willingness to learn and use educational technology and software.
- Professional role modeling and positive relation skills.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move equipment as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Homeland Security or a related field, or in Criminal Justice with 18 graduate credits in Homeland Security or related topics. A Bachelor’s Degree may be accepted if the applicant commits to earning a Master’s Degree within two years, with the degree including relevant graduate credits.
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Homeland Security, Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, or related field.
- Teaching experience at secondary or post-secondary levels.
- Experience with online teaching platforms.
- Five or more years of relevant work experience, including management roles preferred.
- Nebraska Department of Education dual-credit or current Nebraska Teaching Certificate.
