Chadwick Nott - South East and Thames Valley
A local government authority in Camden Town is seeking a qualified Litigation Solicitor. The role involves managing complex caseloads, advocating in courts, and supporting diverse communities. Candidates should possess strong communication and legal skills, with a background in various areas of law. This is a dynamic opportunity to grow professionally in a committed and inclusive environment.
As a Litigation Solicitor in our Employment, Criminal and Commercial Litigation Team, you can make your own powerful contribution to people across Westminster. You will manage a caseload of routine and complex litigation and advisory matters, conduct litigation proceedings at all levels of the civil and criminal court system, and be responsible for drafting, preparing and collating legal documents, advising on law and evidence, and interviewing witnesses to ensure compliance with procedural and standing orders.
Your day-to-day will be varied and dynamic, covering commercial property litigation, housing litigation, corporate and individual bankruptcy and complex debt recovery work. You will report to, liaise with and assist senior colleagues on high-profile, politically sensitive and financially weighted cases. You will lead your cases with minimal supervision while drawing on the expertise of supportive colleagues, conduct proceedings and appear as an advocate on behalf of the Council in Chambers, Courts, Tribunals, Inquiries and Inquests. You will take a detail-oriented, customer centric approach and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, service excellence and employee development.
This is a fantastic opportunity to further your legal and professional skills in a fast-moving and challenging political environment, and to improve outcomes for Westminster residents, businesses and visitors.
Westminster City Council is committed to inclusivity and being an employer of choice. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and aim to reflect the communities we serve. The Council supports flexible working patterns and agile working where possible.
We operate positive action provisions under the Equality Act 2010 to support a candidate from a Global Majority background when candidates are of equal merit. Global Majority refers to communities including but not limited to Black, Asian, Brown, dual-heritage, indigenous to the global south, or ethnically racialised groups. If you are from a Global Majority background, you can self-declare this to the hiring manager as part of our commitments.
We also support diverse shortlists to increase representation of underrepresented groups in our workforce. Westminster is a diverse city with over 200,000 residents, 50,000+ businesses and a large workforce; our strategy is to work towards a Fairer Westminster where communities help shape decision-making and feel welcome and safe.
We strive to create an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued, has a sense of belonging and is empowered to be their best, the Westminster Way. Flexible working and wellbeing are encouraged.
