Clinical Supervisor and Senior Clinician

An exciting opportunity has come up in the Wellbeing in Newham Schools Team (WINS) for a qualified EMHP Supervisor to join Newham's Mental Health Support Team (MHST) delivering support to pupils, their families and teaching staff in education environments across the borough.

This role is a mix of clinical interventions, supervision, collaboration with partners and transformation, with the possibility of embedding your own ideas around what will work for pupils.

We are looking for confident CAMHS professionals who are keen to develop their skills in providing evidence based interventions to children and young people both within schools and in CAMHS clinic settings. You will have a demonstrable track record of providing collaborative and supportive interventions with children, young people, families, and parents/carers. You will have professional registration within your chosen profession, for example Social work, Psychology, or alternative therapies, or be a CWP / EMHP with at least 2 years experience post-qualification & an EMHP supervisor post graduate diploma. The community served is multi-ethnic and culturally diverse and we welcome applicants who are skilled at working with the richness and complexity of this multicultural context.

Main duties of the job

The WINS Clinical Supervisor will be responsible for the caseload management & supervision of the EMHPs. The post holder will also work with and support other senior colleagues in developing service structures to support the delivery of EMHP skills and facilitate wider service transformation within the local child mental health system - this will be done in conjunction with and local service leads and managers.

The Clinical Supervisor will support the strategic development of the team, under the direction of the overall Clinical Leads. They will work closely with all clinical and operational leaders across Newham to ensure that the WINS team is well established and integrated into our CAMHS service.

In addition to providing supervision the post also involves holding your own case load of mild to moderate cases, offering comprehensive consultation, assessment, risk management and interventions for young people experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties. This post is an opportunity to work with education staff and other partners to develop school environments that are more conducive to supporting sustainably better emotional health and wellbeing.

Job responsibilities

To build and maintain the following Key Relationships:

To work in partnership with schools to assess and deliver a range of mental health interventions within school settings. This may involve group work or direct work with children/young people as well as offering specialist mental health-based consultation, and advice around mental health to teaching staff.

Be responsible and ensure the effective co-ordination of clinical care provided within schools including consideration to safeguarding and clinical risk issues where indicated

Work with teachers and school staff to identify, support and provide consultation for children and young people with emerging mental health needs, as part of a whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing

Build relationships across services to ensure joint delivery of care

Contribute to the clinical leadership of the team, providing good quality CBT based clinical and line management supervision and caseload management to the EMHP trainees and will continue this provision once the EMHP trainees have successfully completed their training

Education/ Qualification/ Training
  • oQualification in appropriate mental health/social welfare profession such as: Family & Systemic Psychotherapist / Clinical Psychologist / Counselling Psychologist / Occupational Therapist / Clinical Nurse Specialist (Mental Health) / Social Worker / Art Therapist / Teacher or CWP / EMHP with at least 2 years experience post-qualification
  • oAppropriate level of qualification for your profession e.g. BSc, Masters or Doctoral level
  • oRegistration with your appropriate body (e.g. UKCP, NMC, HCP etc.)
  • oEvidence of continuous and relevant professional training and development (CPD), as appropriate with qualification period
  • oCYP-IAPT Supervision training or equivalent
Experience
  • oPrevious experience of working in CAMHS
  • oExperience of supervising clinicians and trainees
  • oExperience of working with evidence based approaches to low mood, anxiety and behaviour problems
  • oExperience delivering CBT based interventions for low mood, anxiety and other mild mental health issues
  • oAn enthusiasm for using Routine Outcome Measures
  • oExperience of undertaking delegated leadership tasks and managing trainee staff effectively
  • oAbility to develop, manage and lead on outcomes data and data reporting for the service
  • oExperience of providing a culturally sensitive service
