Highly Specialist Physiotherapist in Vascular

We are looking for motivated and versatile team player to join our therapy team within the Surgical & Vascular Team.

The Royal London Hospital is offering an opportunity for a Senior Physiotherapist to work in a specialist role in the advanced assessment, treatment and clinical management of patients with vascular disease and patients post-surgery, including major amputation. This is a one year maternity leave fixed term post.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for Physiotherapy; excellent communication skills, plenty of initiative and enthusiasm with the ability to work autonomously and as a part of the wider MDT.

Within Bart's we offer a robust teaching and training programme with the opportunity to complete Quality Improvement and Audit projects, we provide a supportive and engaging environment to develop and grow our therapists. As a Band 7 physiotherapist you will have the opportunity to develop your own supervisory and management skills through supporting and supervising junior therapists, students and/or therapy support workers. The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on quality improvement and education within the vascular setting.

The role is for a full time post and includes being a member of the Respiratory On Call Rota, as well as covering a weekend service.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical leadership across the RLH Surgical & Vascular pathway.

Undertake a team leader role, working alongside the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist and fellow Band 7 therapists, in planning, co‑ordinating, delivering, and evaluating the physiotherapy service provided for patients across Surgical & Vascular Pathway.

To take a lead role in the assessment, treatment, and management of patients with vascular disease, renal disease, including those who have had surgeries and undergone major Amputations. The role includes occasional cross cover under the specialities of general surgery, elective orthopaedics, gynae‑oncology, neuro‑surgery, neuro‑oncology, trauma.

  • To communicate effectively with other health care professionals, social services, and outside particularly regarding patient care, progress, and planning of rehabilitation and/or discharge needs.
  • To be responsible for the day‑to‑day clinical and operational management ensuring professional delivery of the physiotherapy service with support for the Surgical & Vascular Therapy Team.

To work with the Clinical Lead Therapist to develop the service to best meet changing health and social care agendas. To provide clinical leadership and skill development to the Surgical & Vascular Therapy Team.

  • To deputise for and support the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist when and where required.

Qualifications
  • oDegree/Equivalent in Physiotherapy
  • oHCPC registered
  • oMaster's degree or working towards postgraduate qualification in relevant clinical or leadership field
  • oLeadership or management qualification (e.g. Mary Seacole, ILM, or equivalent)
Experience
  • oExtensive experience in managing patients with vascular, renal surgical, orthopaedic, respiratory, neuro/gyane oncology and neurological operations/conditions
  • oExperience in managing patients who have had major amputations
  • oKnowledge of a range of clinical coniditons particularly in relation to vascular, amputees and renal failure in the acute setting
  • oExtensive clinical acute inpatient and rehabilitation experience within the NHS
  • oExperience of staff supervision
  • oExperience in leading a team
  • oEvidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at post graduate courses/training relevant to specialty
  • oB6 level or equivalent ITU experience
  • oKnowledge of current and emerging NHS strategy, frameworks and NICE guidelines that guide practice for self and wider team.
  • oExperience in outpatient amputee settings.
  • oExperience utilising the PPAM (Pneumatic Post Amputation Mobility) Aid with a patient

  • oAbility to assess, treat and appropriately discharge patients who have experienced surgery for a wide range of conditions, including those with complex presentations, demonstrating evidence based practice (EBP)
  • oAbility to work autonomously, prioritise, organise and delegate a caseload of complex patients for self and wider team
