£33,294 per annum + 11% employer pension contribution


The BTO are looking for a Research Ecologist to work on a range of research projects related to climate change impacts on birds and biodiversity and climate change adaptation, starting with the co-development of Adaptation Delivery Plans with Natural England. Alongside this, the postholder may become involved in analytical projects with long-term BTO datasets or other research projects, depending on experience and expertise, and have opportunities to develop their own portfolio of climate change-related work.

The successful applicant will ideally have knowledge related to climate change and ecology in the UK and Europe, and a proven ability to liaise with stakeholders to deliver impactful science. They will have a PhD in ecology or a related area, or equivalent experience and an ability to plan, to design and to execute analytical research projects and to see them through to the completion of reports and refereed publications.

This position can be based at any of our BTO offices (in Stirling, Thetford, Bangor or Belfast), although you will be able to work from home part of the time on a hybrid working regime and flexible start and finish times can also be accommodated to ensure a good work-life balance. Part time hours will be considered (a minimum of 29.6 hours- equivalent to 4 full days).
