We’re looking for an experienced countryside ranger who’s ready for a new challenge.

Situated near Surrey’s Harewoods Estate, which consists of about 2600 acres of tenanted mixed farmland, woodland, and common land.

We’re a close-knit, small team in a truly idyllic location, and you’ll play a crucial role in preserving natural environments and ensuring visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Note: Due to the nature of the role, a full UK driving licence is essential.

This is a full-time, permanent position, working weekends on a rota basis as required.

You’ll have responsibilities focused on protecting and managing natural and cultural resources.

As the Area Ranger, you’ll lead a small team of volunteers, working alongside you, following the Property’s Business plan and the new National Trust Strategy. You'll support fellow rangers with engagement, conservation, and compliance work.

You will maintain high standards of presentation and property maintenance, achieving Conservation Performance Indicator targets.

You will develop strong professional relationships with colleagues, contractors, tenants (especially farmers), and neighboring land managers.

You’ll also communicate Harewoods’ conservation efforts to diverse audiences through events, guided walks, and community engagement.

Understanding the need for our countryside sites to generate income, your business ideas will be crucial to the team's success.

We’d love to hear from you if you’re:

• Experienced in managing land, nature conservation, and access, including running small projects and supervising contractors
• Used to developing and executing programs of work to achieve conservation or access goals
• A strong team player with experience in leading and managing staff and volunteers
• Practical and skilled in caring for various habitats and landscapes, with certificates in chainsaw use, tractor driving, and towing trailers
• Capable of working safely and leading on compliance, including writing risk assessments and safety/environmental procedures
• Eager to communicate passionately about your work and its importance
• A driver with a full UK license
