Job description

A Vacancy at Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust.

Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS FT (DCHS) is offering suitable candidates the opportunity to join our dynamic, innovative and supportive MSK team as a clinical specialist physiotherapist in an exciting portfolio role. DCHS is one of the UK’s largest providers of specialist community health services in the UK and was recently awarded an outstanding rating by CQC.

We currently have opportunities to work within South Derbyshire in particular Swadlincote, Amber Valley and Erewash; all of which offer an easy commute from neighbouring counties.

Our MSK, FCP and physiotherapy services are working collaboratively to deliver an integrated service that provides accessible and responsive care to meet the needs of patients, GPs and the wider system.

We work using both face to face and innovative virtual service delivery models to deliver care to patients in the right place, by the right person at the right time. Within this role you will be embedded in a large and experienced MSK team who will be a source of peer support and supervision. This varied and interesting role enables you to work across the MSK pathways in Derbyshire with a mix of MSK First Contact Practitioner and MSK CATS caseload.

We are looking to appoint a Band 7 for this post or to progress from Band 6 to Band 7 as a development role. A Band 6-7 development post may take up to 2 years to complete dependent on experience and skills using a competency based framework.

Previous applicants need not apply.

The position is for a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist for MSK physiotherapists who meet the standards of the NHSE FCP roadmap.

However, we are also inviting applications from senior physiotherapists with aspirations to develop into a clinical specialist to come and work within the Physio and MSK services where we will be happy to provide training and supervision to support your career goals.

As a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist, you will be required to:
• Be a source of advanced knowledge in the assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with musculoskeletal conditions
• Be responsible for the management of patients with musculoskeletal conditions; including requesting investigations, interpreting results and working with colleagues in the musculoskeletal service to facilitate appropriate and timely onward referrals to appropriate specialities as required, eg Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, Neurosurgery, Physiotherapy and Podiatry
• Work across different parts of the MSK service to meet service needs, which includes working as a First Contact Practitioner, working in the MSK service and in the Outpatient Physiotherapy service
• Provide professional and clinical leadership and specialist advice to patients, senior physiotherapists, other health care professionals and GPs
• Educate and train other physiotherapists, healthcare professionals and physiotherapy students
• Provide assessment and treatment using remote and face to face consultations Working for our organisation

Derbyshire Community Health Services has been rated as an ‘outstanding’ trust by the Care Quality Commission; we have achieved this by providing high quality patient care within an inclusive organisation that works together and shows care and compassion for each other. There has never been a more exciting time to join us as one of the largest specialist community NHS providers in the country – one that is also among the very best NHS employers as voted by its own staff and by CQC.

The way the NHS works is changing; care outside of traditional hospital settings is quickly becoming a much larger part of what the NHS does. As a leading community provider, we are at the forefront of this exciting future, joining-up services in local communities to better meet the individual needs of our patients.

DCHS is a top performing NHS Trust that strives for innovation and improvement for the service and individuals that work within it.

At DCHS we also offer:
• Up to 33 days’ holiday each year plus Bank Holidays
• Option to purchase additional leave
• Flexible working options
• Relocation package (qualifying criteria)
• One of the best Pension schemes in the UK
• Free parking at all of our sites
• A fair mileage and lease car scheme
• Supported study leave
• Staff health & wellbeing programme
• Access to Health Service Discounts
• Annual flu vaccination

As an employee it will be your responsibility to ensure that your behaviour and values reflect those set out in the DCHS Way outlined on our website and in the additional information provided.

As a senior member of the team, you will be able to provide supervision and mentoring, have protected case discussion time with physiotherapy colleagues and be involved in the delivery of training and development. Where appropriate we can also support you to develop your non-clinical pillars of advancing practice with educational, research and leadership opportunities arising regularly.

If you are passionate about continued professional development and training opportunities, then look no further. Alongside mandatory training, clinical supervision and mentoring, all clinicians are given a generous CPD time allowance and our MSK education team provide tailored advanced practice training opportunities. We also support staff to attend external courses where appropriate and have many advanced clinical supervisors to support you with work-based place learning and assessments.

Please visit our website to see the variety of jobs we have on offer, see staff stories and find out more about the organisation and why Derbyshire is a great place to work and live. We look forward to hearing from you.
