A healthcare organization specializing in mental health is seeking a Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry to join a supportive multidisciplinary team. The role involves providing clinical leadership, managing caseloads, and engaging in community-oriented services for older adults. We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry to join our Older Persons' Mental Health Community Team (South Locality) based at St Mary's Community Health Campus, Portsmouth.

You will join a well-resourced, supportive multidisciplinary team covering approximately 19,400 older adults across the locality, with strong links to inpatient services, Hospital at Home, dementia support, and voluntary sector partners. This role offers flexibility, excellent peer support, opportunities for teaching and training, access to CPD, and the chance to help shape the future of older people’s mental health services in Hampshire.

As Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry, you will provide senior clinical leadership, supervision, and direct care within the South Locality Community Mental Health Team. This includes managing a varied caseload, leading on complex assessments and treatment plans, and offering timely medical advice to colleagues across the system. You will work collaboratively with community nurses, support workers, social workers, OTs, and psychologists to ensure safe, effective, and person-centred care.
The role involves outpatient clinics, domiciliary visits, MDT meetings, and close liaison with GPs, Virtual Frailty Ward teams, and local voluntary organisations. You will also supervise and support junior medical staff, contribute to teaching programmes, and play an active role in service development, quality improvement, and clinical governance.
On-call commitments are approximately 1:12, category A (low intensity), supported by a tiered rota system. You will be encouraged to pursue your interests in education, leadership, or research, supported by a dedicated mentoring scheme, peer groups, and excellent CPD opportunities.
