Job description
Overview

FIXED-TERM LOCUM CONSULTANT CARDIOLOGIST with a subspecialty interest in HEART FAILURE. Applications are invited for the post of locum consultant cardiologist with subspecialty interest in heart failure, on a full-time (10 PAs) one-year fixed-term basis.

The appointee will join a vibrant and innovative cardiology department based at the Whittington Hospital that has been the recipient of UK Customer Service Excellence Award for its clinical services.

The appointee must be accredited in Cardiology and be on the GMC's Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Specialist Register.

A subspecialty interest in heart failure is a requirement for this post. There is no requirement for on-calls in general (internal) medicine, but this can be accommodated in the job plan for a qualified appointee.

The successful candidate will collaborate in patient management with clinicians at Whittington Health and work closely with colleagues working in cardiology, acute/general medicine and in the wider community.

It is a clear aim of the service to reduce local waiting times for a cardiovascular opinion and to ensure high-quality inpatient care of patients with cardiovascular conditions, particularly heart failure.

It is the intention of the cardiology department to recruit a permanent full-time consultant cardiologist with subspecialty interest in heart failure within the next 12 months.

Responsibilities
  • Leading inpatient rounds on the cardiology ward on designated days, seeing patients and leading the multi-disciplinary board round.
  • Contributing to the in-reach service to the acute admissions unit and other wards, including seeing patients and discussing cases with trainee doctors.
  • Overseeing the care of patients in outpatient clinics and in the community, including seeing patients, arranging relevant investigations and instigating appropriate treatments.
  • Providing direct clinical supervision to trainee doctors and nurse specialists.
  • Providing advice and support for local general practitioners.
  • Working collaboratively with other consultants and members of the department, including providing reasonable cover for annual and study leave of colleagues.
