Job description
Overview

Locum Consultant in Emergency Medicine for maternity leave cover for a 9-month period, 30/10/25 to 29/07/26. The post is for the Trust, not to a specific hospital. Our Trust footprint currently includes Cromer Hospital (25 miles from NNUH). The ED Consultants provide support for a minor injuries unit in Cromer in terms of clinical advice, and support with protocol development. The MIU is staffed by ENPs.

Main duties

Within ED

  • Provision of safe, timely, high-quality care to patients
  • Undertake different roles within the department as required
  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff
  • 24/7 Trauma Team leader
  • Participation in teaching programs within the department
  • Act as educational and clinical supervisor for a wide range of trainees
  • Take on specific roles in the department that require consultant oversight and ensure these specific parts of the service achieve their desired aims and objectives
  • Undertake review of formal imaging report
Clinical Governance
  • Be proactive in the Clinical Governance agenda for the department, including participation in audit and quality improvement projects, guidelines/pathways, professional development, appraisal and risk management, as well as attending Clinical Governance meetings
  • Attend Directorate meetings to contribute to the development of the service
Within the Trust
  • Liaise with clinicians and leads outside of the ED to address issues that arise
  • Participation in teaching programs across the wider hospital community and the University of East Anglia
  • The appointees will be members of the Consultant Staff Committee

Qualifications

  • Full GMC Registration
  • CCST Specialist Registration in Emergency Medicine OR eligibility for specialist registration in Emergency Medicine within 6-12 months from the time of the interview
  • ALS, APLS/EPLS, ATLS provider
  • FRCEM

Desirable

  • Instructor status in Advanced life support courses
  • Postgraduate diploma / degree

Leadership

  • Work effectively with colleagues towards shared goals
