Job description
Overview

CNWL are currently looking for an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to provide medical leadership in developing and managing the Kensington & Chelsea Psychotherapy service on a fixed-term contract as maternity cover. The post-holder will work within the Kensington & Chelsea community mental health teams (Hubs) to inform overall treatments and to provide specialist psychological therapies assessments and treatment as part of integrated care pathways. The post-holder will also work closely with the Complex Emotional Needs (CEN) Clinical Lead and Art Therapists to provide specialist psychotherapy interventions. This is an established part-time (8 sessions) post based at Hathaway House, London, W9 2BA.

Main duties

To provide specialised psychological therapies assessments and treatments in secondary care services as part of integrated care pathways, provide medical leadership in developing and managing the psychotherapy service, provide specialist supervision of psychotherapy treatments and fulfil the training responsibilities of the Trust for psychiatric trainees, medical students and other mental health professionals.

Details

Location: Hathaway House, 7F Woodfield Road, London, W9 2BA. This is a part-time post (8 sessions per week).

Responsibilities
  • Managing psychotherapy referrals and waiting lists in the Psychotherapy Service.
  • Providing specialist psychological therapy assessments and extended consultations. Weekly: one new psychotherapy assessment (directly or via supervision of a junior colleague), one follow-up assessment, and one consultation for ongoing complex psychotherapy cases.
  • Holding a clinical caseload including psychotherapy assessments, complex psychotherapy patients, and patients in ongoing psychotherapy under supervision (approximately 4, 4, and 25 patients respectively).
  • Providing clinical and psychotherapy supervision for 1.5 WTE Psychotherapy junior doctors (typically CT3 level). Supervision of junior doctors during rotation, with consultant responsibility for cases throughout treatment. Supervision groups typically include five supervisees for one hour weekly. Individual treatments may last up to 12 months.
  • Attending weekly K&C North and South Hub team meetings and direct involvement in community teams clinical work.
  • Providing clinical leadership to enable a full range of psychological treatments across Kensington and Chelsea.
  • Medical input and clinical leadership in line with the Trust’s strategic objectives.
Qualifications and experience

Essential

  • Primary Medical Degree
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Section 12 MHA Approved
  • Inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date)

Desirable

  • MRCPsych (or equivalent)
  • Additional GMC Specialist Registration
  • AC approval
  • Higher degree (MSc, LLM, MD or PhD)
  • Additional UKCP/BPC accredited postgraduate qualification in specialist psychotherapy or in an advanced stage of training towards this
General knowledge and skills

Essential

  • Experience of providing psychotherapy supervision to medical and non-medical staff as well as offering consultations to senior colleagues across disciplines
  • Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams
