As a Software Engineering Manager for our Development Modernisation team, you'll manage software engineers tackling diverse, intellectually stimulating problems spanning developer experience enhancement and application evolution.

With your guidance, your team will drive innovation across our technology landscape by building the pathways to modernise our systems, introducing cutting-edge tools and establishing best practices that empower other development teams.

You’ll bring an engineering mindset, technical proficiency, and proven managerial experience to the mix. This role offers scope to experiment with new and innovative approaches, and so intellectual curiosity and comfort with ambiguity is required.

To be successful as a Software Engineering Manager in Development Modernization, you should have:

• Experience of people management
• Hands-on software development experience with Java, Python or equivalent
• Proven ability to grow and retain engineering talent

Some other highly valued skills may include:

• Cross-functional collaboration experience
• Experience with product evaluation and proof-of-concept development
• Interest in LLM applications for software development; understanding of prompt engineering for development tasks

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities

• Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
• Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
• Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
• Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
