East London NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting two full‑time 8a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist posts – one in CIMHS North and one in CIMHS South, Newham. These roles support the development and leadership of community psychology approaches and deliver specialist psychological assessment, formulation and intervention to secondary and community mental health services, particularly to those with complex mental health problems who are vulnerable to poor health outcomes through poverty, social inequalities, disabilities or physical health conditions.

• Provide specialist psychological assessment of service users and carers using quantitative and qualitative sources, psychological and neuropsychological tests, self‑report measures, rating scales, structured observations and other evidence.
• Formulate and implement a broad range of specialist psychological treatment and/or manage service users’ mental health problems, based on an appropriate conceptual framework derived from a broad theoretical knowledge of psychology and employing methods of proven efficacy.
• Co‑produce psychological interventions that address the needs of service users, including resilience, recovery, shared support, social connections and community engagement.
• Offer and supervise adapted therapies with diverse communities, including Behavioural Activation for Muslim communities (BA‑M), Islamic psychology, and CBT‑music for young black men.
• Develop partnership working with local community organisations to build community capacity and co‑produce psychological input and support ongoing transformation work aligned with a flexible outreach psychological offer.

• Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology.
• HCPC Registration.
• Clinical supervision training for doctoral clinical or counselling psychology trainees.
• Experience of working as a specialist clinical or counselling psychologist in a multidisciplinary team for adults with complex mental health needs.
• Experience of planning, exercising and exercising full clinical responsibility for service users’ psychological care within a multidisciplinary care plan.
• Experience of teaching, training, consultation and/or professional and clinical supervision.
• Experience of working in partnership with third sector agencies and facilitating groups.

• Further training within systemic, narrative therapy or community psychology approaches.
• Further training in a therapeutic modality relevant to complex mental health (e.g. trauma interventions).
• Experience of facilitating reflective practice groups.
• Experience of developing and delivering specialist training programmes.
• Experience of co‑production with people with lived experience of mental distress.

• Highly developed skills in complex psychological assessment, intervention and management, including theoretical models to analyse information and develop formulations.
• Excellent communication skills in conveying highly technical or clinically sensitive information to a wide range of recipients across a variety of settings.
• Ability to identify and promote appropriate support for carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations.
