Job description
Mental Health Nurse - Early Interventions Team

Closing date: 30 December 2025

Are you a Band 5 Mental Health professional with a passion for Early Intervention in Psychosis? Are you looking for a new and exciting opportunity to develop your skills and expertise? Look no further than Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT).

Our Early Intervention Team is one of the top-performing teams in the country. Clinicians in our team hold smaller caseloads that enable them to deliver the quality of care they aspire to. Professionals in our team find the work inherently rewarding because of the clear sense of what "good" looks like in this field, and because of the huge impact you can have on a person's life, with full recovery a realistic possibility in many cases.

This post will predominantly cover the East of the patch, which includes Lichfield, Tamworth, Burton on Trent, and surrounding areas. The team provides input to people across South Staffordshire, working out of team bases across the Trust, as well as people's homes, GP surgeries, other public settings, and inpatient settings. Therefore, the successful applicant must be willing to travel across the geographical area where required.

Main duties of the job

The Early Intervention Service supports individuals for up to 3 years who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis, are typically presenting for the first time to mental health services, and have either not yet received any treatment or have been treated for less than a year. The service encourages access and provides treatment to a predominantly young service user group, spanning ages up to 65. It adopts a culturally sensitive, bio‑psycho‑social approach and an assertive outreach style; the team composition is suited to this target group.

You will contribute to assessments of people referred to the service, working alongside other team members and in partnership with the person, their families/carers, and other services and professionals involved.

You will act as care co‑ordinator for a clinical caseload that has been assessed and accepted onto the caseload by the service, and will also be expected to contribute to a team approach in meeting service users' and families' needs.

You will act as an autonomous practitioner in aspects of the role, agreeing care plans with service users and the multi‑disciplinary team. Referring to the team leader and senior practitioners where necessary, particularly in relation to high‑profile and very complex cases.

You will also work closely with other members of the multi‑disciplinary team to ensure patients receive the best possible care and treatment.

To be successful, you will need to have the relevant professional registration and a passion for working with people with mental health needs. You should also have excellent communication skills and be committed to providing high‑quality care to our patients.
