PI Underwriter (6 Month Fixed Term Contract)
Job summary
A specialist underwriting firm in the UK is seeking a PI Underwriter for a 6-month fixed contract, working fully remote. The successful candidate will help launch a deductible infill product and engage with brokers on its operation. Responsibilities include underwriting, managing a portfolio of risks, and effective communication with brokers. Applicants should have a minimum of 3 years of experience in underwriting or broking in the UK and hold a Diploma CII or equivalent. Strong communication and mathematical skills are essential.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years experience in underwriting or broking preferably in the UK market with a recognised insurer, MGA or broker.
- Diploma CII qualified (or equivalent).
- Exceptional communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Deliver the product to market and engage with brokers about its concept.
- Actively underwrite, manage, and develop a portfolio of risks.
- Identify efficient and effective underwriting methods.
- Contribute to technical audits and peer reviews.

XS Assure (XSA) was launched in 2021 and is a specialist underwriter of financial and professional lines risks in the UK and internationally. XSA's core business has been underwriting UK PI risks.
In the UK, we currently underwrite and/or place business with 5 risk carriers whilst internationally, with 3 risk carriers.
To date, XSA has been very successful in building a sizeable and profitable portfolio due to its wide risk appetite, its ability to underwrite risks based on merit, empowered underwriters and a commitment to fast turnaround time on all quotes to insurance brokers.
Operationally, XSA employs 16 staff who all work from home. Culturally, it's very entrepreneurial and fast-moving with a focus on always building a better, smarter business with little bureaucracy. XSA is looking to bring on additional talent with the same ethos.
XSA was acquired by JMG Group in July 25, so benefiting from internal services and access to group held business whilst maintaining its independence as a fast moving and growing business.
Initially a short-term role to help launch a deductible infill product which if successful will lead to a full time underwriting role.
You will initially assist in finalising the product before helping to launch the product and teach brokers how it operates. Each inquiry will then need underwriting and formal terms issued.
- Take responsibility for delivering the product to market talking to brokers about its concept and how it works.
- Then actively underwrite, manage and develop a portfolio of risks to maximise profitable revenue potential.
- Identifying, better, smarter, faster means of underwriting / trading
- Contributing to technical audits and peer review processes as required to support and enable the maintenance of an effective control environment
- Ability to work in a remote team environment
- Understanding our marketplace and key competitors to enable you to negotiate flexibly and appropriately resulting in successful trading
- Effective broker account relationship development and management
- Demonstrated ability to assess and price risks, limit exposures
- Successfully developing effective trading relationships
- Commercially astute with demonstrable track record of taking accountability for delivery
- Minimum 3 years experience in underwriting or broking preferably UK market with a recognised insurer, MGA or broker
- Minimum Dip CII qualified (or equivalent)
- Proficient in MS Excel
- Mathematically capable and savvy
- Exception communication skills
