The voice of the National Trust in the uplands, you’ll work to ensure the future health of the Lake District. It’s a varied role that will allow you to use your knowledge and experience of erosion control and upland path management as you lead the upland ranger team in the South Lakes to conserve these special habitats and protect the fells for the future as part of the Fix the Fells Partnership.
What it's like
Our South Lakes Portfolio lies in the heart of the Lake District National Park, where we care for spectacular and iconic parts of this much-loved landscape around Coniston, Hawkshead and Little Langdale.
The countryside team includes a Countryside Manager, Project Officer, 4 Area Rangers, 9 Rangers and a Business Services. We’re creating more space for nature by working in partnership with our farm tenants to restore rich and ecologically diverse habitats that support healthy soils, clean water, and vibrant landscapes.
What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Countryside Manager, you’ll be passionate about the Lake District landscape, helping us restore a healthy, natural, resilient environment that everyone can access.
You’ll be responsible for erosion control on a quarter of the Lake District’s upland paths, including the iconic Striding Edge and Old Man of Coniston. You’ll work in the high fells from April until the end of October, whilst managing a small team of rangers and volunteers to deliver a programme of footpath repair work.
This will include navigating nature and landscape designations and engaging a wide range of stakeholders to build long-term relationships on behalf of the Fix the Fells partnership across these projects.
Between November and March, you’ll work as part of our wider ranger team supporting the delivery of other projects across our land in the South Lakes
