Important Notice

In line with our redeployment policy, we will prioritise applications from employees who are under formal notice of redundancy.

Position Overview

As the public face of our properties, you will provide a warm, friendly welcome, give information about the property, answer questions and ensure everyone enjoys a memorable visit. Reporting to the Welcome Manager, you will be part of a friendly team of eight who take pride in welcoming every visitor with warmth and enthusiasm. Each day offers the opportunity to share your knowledge and help others discover the fascinating history and stories of our site. If you enjoy learning, talking to people, and providing excellent service in a supportive and down‑to‑earth team, you will feel right at home here. Training and support will be provided, with opportunities to develop new skills and deepen your knowledge about the site’s history, visitor experience, and the wider work we do.

You don’t need to have all of the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what’s possible in this role.

Responsibilities

Our work revolves around creating great experiences: answering questions, assisting with requests, and ensuring every visitor has the information they need to enjoy their day. You will help us track visitor data to improve the service we offer. The role includes a mix of practical and customer‑facing responsibilities, such as opening and locking the Welcome Building, driving the access buggy to help visitors move around the site, and using the till to process admissions. You will also promote membership and support fundraising efforts, helping visitors feel inspired to get more involved or donate. A certain level of physical fitness is required, as you will be on your feet for much of the day, carrying out light physical tasks, and working in all weathers.

Candidate Qualities
  • Customer focused with an understanding of the importance of great service
  • A team player, but also able to work on your own initiative
  • Well organized and adaptable
  • Willing to learn new skills
  • Have a positive attitude
Contract & Working Hours

Duration: Fixed‑term contract until 31 October 2026. This contract ends when the postholder returns to the role. It is unlikely to last more than 12 months. Total hours: 624 hours across the contract, annualised. Your salary will be paid in equal instalments over the year. Shift times will typically be a combination of 9:00‑15:30 or 10:00‑14:00 during winter, and 9:00‑16:30 or 10:00‑15:00 in summer.
