Job description
About the Role

Human Factors Engineering Graduate Programme

Looking to launch your engineering career with purpose? At EDF, Success is Personal. That means your journey is yours to shape - and we're here to support you every step of the way. Join our Science and Engineering Graduate Programme and you'll gain the skills, experience and confidence to build a career that's uniquely yours - all while helping Britain achieve net zero.

The HF graduate scheme has not only given me a deep understanding of Human Factors in the nuclear industry but also showed me how relevant HF is across a wide range of disciplines as I moved through placements. It’s genuinely one of the best opportunities I’ve ever had - and I’ve met some incredible people along the way!

The Opportunity

Alongside earning a salary of £37,500 per annum, you'll join a 16-month training programme designed to build your technical expertise and professional confidence.

You'll rotate through placements across our nuclear new build sites, central teams and operating stations. You'll work on real-world projects such as task analysis, design reviews and safety case development. You'll also receive protected training time for courses like Nuclear Fundamentals and Human Performance, and be supported to begin your journey towards chartership with the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors or other relevant bodies.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Human Factors Engineering Graduate at EDF, you'll gain hands-on experience, develop technical and professional skills, and contribute to meaningful projects that support the UK's journey to net zero

  • Support Human Factors work including task analyses and procedure improvements
  • Shadow walk-downs at EDF nuclear power stations
  • Contribute to commissioning and safety case development for Hinkley Point C
  • Produce reports detailing Human Factors assessments
  • Complete placements with teams such as Design Authority, Pre-Operations and Human Performance

Your Work Location

You'll be based at one of our key sites: Gloucester, Bristol, Bridgwater, Hartlepool or Sizewell B. You'll also have the opportunity for at least one placement away from your main location, gaining exposure to the wider EDF nuclear family. Most locations require 3-5 days in office per week.

Who You Are

To be eligible for this EDF graduate programme, you need to have achieved, or be expecting to achieve, a 2:2 Bachelor's or Postgraduate degree in a relevant field such as:

  • Human Factors
  • Ergonomics
  • Occupational Psychology
  • Cognitive Psychology
  • Psychology
  • Engineering
  • Human-computer interaction
  • UI/UX Design
  • Life Sciences

You'll have a genuine interest in nuclear energy, strong communication and organisational skills, and a passion for solving technical problems.

Security Vetting

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a starting salary of £37,500 per annum, potential for an annual bonus, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days and more.

At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That's why we offer you the freedom to develop a career that's unique to you. Here, Success is Personal - it's your journey, powered by us.
