Family Support Worker / Early Help Practitioner

Location: Kingston & Richmond (based at 44 York Street or local hubs)

Contract: initially for 3 months, likely to be extended

Hours: 36 per week | Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:15

Rate: £21.16 PAYE / £27.59 Umbrella

Achieving for Children is seeking a compassionate and proactive Family Support Worker / Early Help Practitioner to join the Child and Family Help Team. This role provides vital support to children, young people, and families across Kingston and Richmond during a period of long-term staff absence.

Working under the guidance of a qualified social worker, you’ll deliver targeted early help and specialist interventions to prevent escalation into Child Protection services. You’ll be based in one of our offices, youth centres, or family hubs, coordinating multi-agency support and developing SMART plans that prioritise the wellbeing of children and young people.

• Conduct whole-family assessments and develop tailored support plans
• Deliver high-quality interventions aligned with AfC’s framework and safeguarding procedures
• Act as lead professional, coordinating multi-agency partnerships (Team Around the Child)
• Maintain clear professional boundaries and accurate records of all interventions
• Respond to complex family needs with empathy, structure, and accountability
• Collaborate with children, young people, and families to set realistic goals and track progress

• Experience working with children, young people, and families in a support or early help role
• Strong communication, organisation, and ICT skills (Google Suite/Microsoft Office)
• Knowledge of children’s services and multi-agency working
• GCSE Grade A–C (or equivalent) in English and Maths
• Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work independently and as part of a team
• Able to enter CQC-registered settings (vaccination status may be required)
