Community Mental Health Support Worker – Crisis Team West Staffordshire

Are you a Mental Health Support Worker looking for a new opportunity to work in an organisation that will help you develop and achieve your goals to become the best you can be? If so, you're in luck.

We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Service Team based at Haywood Lodge, St George's hospital in Stafford as a Community Mental Health Support Worker.

The multi-disciplinary team provides a 24/7 service to the population aged 16 and above residing in the Southwest Staffordshire Locality delivering urgent response and a comprehensive Mental Health Assessment to people who are presenting in an acute Mental Health Crisis, and Home Treatment to those people requiring a period of short-term intensive intervention.

You will need to travel independently over a large geographical area to see service users in their homes, so you will need access to suitable transport.

This role is made up of shift patterns covering 24/7, you will be required to work night shifts as part of this role.

Main duties of the job

Under the direction of the senior health and social care staff in the team and/or the shift coordinator you will assist in delivering interventions with an allocated group of service users with mental health needs.

The interventions will be focussed on:

  • Assisting the person to identify and achieve their agreed goals of Recovery.
  • Interventions related to: meaningful occupation, accessing employment, assessing and promoting physical health, social inclusion, activities of daily living and mental health promotion.
  • Supporting the service user to complete appropriate outcome measure tools and participate in reviews of the service user's care and effectiveness of the interventions provided.

As part of this role, you will be required to:

  • Deliver a high-quality clinical service to patients and their families comprising:
    • Accompanying Band 6 staff in the assessment of crisis situations
    • Assisting with the provision of effective home treatment to prevent hospital admission including effective physical health assessment and care
  • Working collaboratively with other Trust services to provide seamless care for service-users on defined care-pathways
  • Lone working will be part of this role
  • Responsible for working in partnership with agencies external to the Trust supporting service-users access to services in the independent and non-statutory sector.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Advanced Apprenticeship in (Mental) health and Social Care Or NVQ 3 in (Mental) Health and Social Care with demonstrable evidence of numeracy and literacy skills (equivalent GCSE'S or Functional Skills) Or equivalent i.e. Health Social Care qualification at least equivalent to the above that equips the person with necessary knowledge, skill and competence as outlined below.
Experience
  • Experience of with people with Mental Health Needs non-dementia related
  • Experience of working with people with Mental health needs as a member of a multi-disciplinary community team
  • Experience of co-facilitating group-based interventions
Skills & Knowledge
  • Knowledge and awareness of issues relating to mental health, access to mental health services and mental health promotion.
  • Skills in literacy, written, verbal and an ability to effectively use electronic information and computer technology
  • Skills in managing situations of high expressed emotions and an ability to manage one's own emotions state
  • Ability to work independently, being self‑motivated and to be able to prioritise and effectively manage a range of competing needs and pressures
  • Skills in undertaking physical health assessment including the measurement and recording of; weight, height, blood pressure, ECG, smoking, diet and drug and alcohol use.
