Job description

Project Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality (HSEQ) Consultant

RPS is looking for a Project Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality (HSEQ) Consultant to provide offshore operational HSE experience and functional support to our project teams with their portfolio of high-profile offshore wind projects both in the UK and internationally. We operate a hybrid working arrangement and you can be based in Chepstow, Edinburgh, Woking, Aberdeen or London offices (home working can be considered). We have flexible working opportunities, including part time roles, to ensure a balance of family and working life.

We are at the forefront of the industry - delivering offshore infrastructure projects in complex marine environments including offshore wind farm developments. Our experience includes 20 years as an industry leader, working across multiple geographic locations including the UK, Europe, America, Australia and Asia.

When you join RPS, you’ll become a valued member of our deeply experienced marine consenting and environment team, who have been selected as the lead Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA) consultant for some of the industry’s major “firsts”. These include the world’s largest offshore wind farms at the point of construction: Orsted’s Hornsea One, Two and Three, and Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm SSE’s Berwick Bank.

Other “firsts” also include bp / EnBW’s first offshore wind farms in England (Morgan), Wales (Mona) and Scotland (Morven), and the largest floating offshore wind farm at pre-application (SSE / CIP / Marubeni’s Ossian). RPS is also delivering Australia’s first offshore wind farm project (CIP’s Star of the South) and we are Equinor’s ESIA consultant on their first floating offshore wind project in South Korea (Firefly). In the United States, our parent company TetraTech, supported the US’s first utility-scale offshore wind energy project (Avangrid and CIP's Vineyard Wind).

We’re RPS, our projects are all around you. We define, design and manage projects that create shared value in a complex, urbanising and resource-scarce world. Our people are our success. We need people who share our passion for solving the problems that matter. Here you’ll find work that is engaging and rewarding, and you’ll be supported every step of the way.

What you’ll be doing

In this pivotal role, you’ll be responsible for leading by example and ensuring that a proactive Health & Safety culture is fostered and embedded across our Marine Consenting & Environment (MC&E) business unit and their projects. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of projects to our own high standards of HSEQ and our clients’ high expectations.

  • Development and implementation of MC&E’s specific management systems following ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 standards and in alignment with the broader RPS Energy business management systems where necessary.
  • Working closely with our project teams, you will ensure that their projects are contractually HSEQ compliant throughout the project lifecycle., Identify areas of risk and employ mitigations to reduce the potential of HSEQ negative impacts on our project portfolios.
  • Provide up to date project HSEQ statistics for inclusion in required reporting.
  • Attend all client requested project site visits / meetings / audits in addition to any field team visits deemed necessary internally to assess regulatory compliance, requested from either the project management team or the Energy HSEQ Manager / Senior Management.
  • Act as the focal point and role model for the HSEQ function within the MC&E business unit. Utilise an engaging communication and influencing style enabling you to work with all levels of the business unit and wider organisation when required.
  • Collaborate with the MC&E senior teams to ensure a collective vision and approach that focuses on our people and their behaviours to help create a positively reinforced learning culture.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of HSEQ policies and procedures, in alignment with the ISO Standards and client requirements ensuring they are embedded in our integrated management system of works also.
  • Interface with RPS Energy’s HSEQ Manager, and other business divisional HSEQ Managers to ensure best practice is adopted and implemented across our entire business.
  • Undertake HSEQ incident investigation and reporting as required following any incidents.
  • Attend segment and division management meetings where required.
  • Ensure operational activities are properly risk assessed, managing a regular audit programme to evaluate performance.
Who we’re looking for
  • A nationally (or internationally) industry recognised health & safety qualification eg. Nebosh
  • Experience in developing, maintaining and auditing ISO compliant management systems.
  • Experience of providing HSEQ guidance, supporting field survey planning and operations offshore and occasionally onshore.
  • Must hold a Clean UK driving licence – the role requires travel throughout our regions.
  • Previous experience working in the energy sector would be an advantage.
What’s in it for you?

If you’re interested in how we use and manage the marine environment, want to help meet NetZero targets and, support projects that tackle climate change through the development of offshore renewable energy, then talk to us about our career opportunities.

Here you’ll find true support and encouragement. We’re an accredited training provider – from entry level to master’s degree level professional qualifications in leadership & management and executive coaching & mentoring, we support learning and development for everyone. A personal development plan and a transparent career pathway puts you in the driving seat of your career and you’ll be supported as far as you want to go.

We encourage and value different ideas, perspectives, and styles of thinking. We need a mix of experiences and skills to develop the most innovative ideas.
