Critical Care Pharmacist – Fixed Term / Secondment (12 months)

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Critical Care Pharmacist to join our dynamic and well‑established critical care pharmacy and immunoglobulin teams on a fixed‑term basis / secondment for a period of 12 months. This advanced role requires previous critical care experience and you will provide clinical pharmacy input to adult critical care areas and to the immunoglobulin service.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities within this advanced clinical pharmacy role optimising safe and effective use of medicines is shared across adult critical care units and immunoglobulins with an approximate split of 75% and 25% respectively, adjusted as needed in view of service delivery pressures.

  • Line manage Band 7 critical care pharmacists and pharmacy technician(s)
  • Lead and support clinical governance for immunoglobulin use and in adult critical care
  • Where qualified to do so, prescribe within agreed scope and CUH pharmacist prescribing policy
  • Support EoE SRIAP treatment decisions and response assessment in line with standards and guidelines
  • Attend and contribute to regional immunoglobulin panels and working groups
  • Support compliance with EOEIAP, NHSE and national immunoglobulin database standards
  • Lead and contribute to novel pharmacy projects in designated clinical areas
  • Contribute to regional workstreams via the EoE Critical Care Pharmacists Network and Subregional Immunoglobulin Assessment Panel
  • Undertake and support research and transition research into practice to inform evidence‑based practice development
  • Liaise with senior multidisciplinary staff to promote safe, effective and cost‑effective medicines use in critical care
  • Support safe prescribing and administration of high‑risk medicines commonly used in adult critical care
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary ward/board rounds, case discussions and service meetings.
  • Support the education and development of junior pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants.

The role also requires supporting education, training, and supervision of pharmacists, trainees, and other healthcare professionals. Our service to adult critical care runs across seven days and includes a commitment to working one weekend in every six weeks.
