Job description

Ref: 001220

The Trustees are looking to recruit to the post of Teacher / Unqualified Teacher Autism Base New Bridge School, Hollinwood Teachers’ / Unqualified Teachers’ Pay Range plus SEN and Base allowance Commencing as soon as possible (subject to notice period)

We have an opportunity for an ambitious, passionate leader to take on the role of Class teacher in our Autism Base. Build your meaningful future with us and take your career to the next level. If you’re the kind of person dedicated to improving the lives of children, you’re just the person New Bridge is looking for.

Why New Bridge?

Staff are proud to work at the school. They are highly supported in their professional development

Ofsted Report February 2025

We are committed to making a difference where it matters most to create meaningful futures for all We invest in developing talent through our strong focus on coaching and training. We nurture teams: fostering a sense of belonging secured by strong purpose and healthy relationships. As we are a talent first organisation, we are always looking to find people who align themselves to our mission and values. If you feel that could be you then we would love to hear from you.

If you’re the kind of person that is committed to improving the lives of children, by having the ability to build good working relationships, utilising organisational skills, being flexible and innovative, and enjoy working with a range of different stakeholders, then you are the person to support our children and lead our staff. We pride ourselves on being the New Bridge ‘community’, a vocational destination, not just a job.

Autism Base Teacher:

New Bridge School’s discrete Autism provision is a consistent environment for students with a diagnosis of autism and associated complex needs. The curriculum echoes that of the main school and students enjoy all subjects and have full access to all the school’s facilities. The main focus in the Autism Base is to develop social interaction, self and sensory regulation and communication skills.

This supports the pupils to express their wants, needs and emotions in more appropriate ways. These pupils are working towards a destination of playing a part in their community and are likely to require lifelong support to do so. The class teachers in these settings focus largely on EHCP outcomes and deliver the majority of subjects to pupils. Enrichment subjects like PE, Music and Art are delivered by a specialist teacher. The class groups in the Autism Base range between 6-7 pupils and have a much higher staff to pupil ratio. We are looking for a class teacher for a group in this provision.

Due to the complex nature of our students, high levels of emotional and physical resilience are needed. However, the knowledge that our work is making a positive impact in helping the young people to grow and work towards independence brings great reward.

If you share our determination and ambition to ensure that this provision is a beacon of outstanding practice this role offers an exciting opportunity to develop in a forward thinking and outward looking organisation.

Your continued development will also be a priority, and you will receive excellent support and advice from a talented team of colleagues who will invest in your professional learning. Alongside your role as class teacher there are opportunities to take on Curriculum Leadership roles.

With this post, we would be interested in applicants with experience of supporting children or young people with Autism or Special Educational Needs within the primary sector.

The successful candidates will:

  • Have experience of enhancement of pupil progress gains and raising attainment and achievement levels of all students
  • Be able to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation through imaginative and differentiated lessons which meet individual needs

  • Possess the emotional and physical resilience necessary when working with young people with a range of complex needs
  • Be able to build positive relationships with the class group, ensuring consistency and continuity on a daily basis.
  • Have the ability to foster good relationships with other staff, pupils, parents and the wider community
  • Be hard working, organised and proactive in their professional development
  • Be a team player who can work effectively with all members of the New Bridge team
