The successful candidate will coordinate community nursing services and engage with families, ensuring high-quality care. Candidates must be registered nurses with relevant qualifications and should demonstrate strong communication skills. This position requires a full UK driving license for community visits and is based in Solihull.

Our Solihull Children's Learning Disability Nursing service is based at Friars Gate, one of UHB Trust's Solihull Community sites. We have an established Learning Disability Nursing service and work with children, young people, and their families offering care and support in relation to moderate to severe learning disability. This service is integrated with the Solihull Children's Community Nursing Team and Solihull Special School Nursing Team and has a close working relationship with Solihull Community Paediatrics medical and therapy Services.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate learning disability nurse to support with the co‑ordination, provision, and progression of this service. We are part of a multi‑professional team and pride ourselves in the positive outcomes we support children and young people to achieve.
This role requires a candidate who is confident and enthusiastic about supporting children with learning disabilities to maximise their potential and who can confidently and enthusiastically engage with and support parents. It may also on occasion include some clinical intervention and skills‑based competencies.
The team operates from 09.00 – 17.00 hours Monday to Friday. This post is 30 hours and expected to be worked over 5 days.
Applicants must hold a full current UK driving licence and have regular access to their own car for community visits.
Our successful candidate will have relevant community exposure/experience, excellent communication skills, and be committed to delivering high‑quality care to children, families, and carers in their home, school, special school, hospital settings and local community environments. Good team working and interpersonal skills are essential, as is an ability to manage own time and own caseload. A flexible working approach is essential in supporting these children and their families.
You will be required to manage a named caseload of children under the supervision of a senior nurse and will be expected to manage your own time and use your own initiative to provide evidence‑based quality care. You will be part of a multi‑professional team and will require excellent communication skills.
Each learning disability nurse within our team holds a link nurse role supporting a local special school, nursery or acute inpatient area. Liaison with education staff, school well‑being teams and the local community are involved in this work.
The role involves 1 to 1 support for children and young people, 1 to 1 advice and guidance for parents and carers and co‑ordination of group activities/workshops for identified groups of children and parents. The majority of our contacts are face to face but we have embraced virtual working where it has been supportive to the needs of families. A good knowledge of general IT systems and patient recording systems will be helpful.
