Job description

Our client is a leading UK residential developer delivering high-quality housing projects nationwide. They currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Health and Safety Advisor

Key Roles and Responsibilities
  • Identify the duties and responsibilities of the business under the CDM Regulations for each project and agree an appropriate course of action with the Business Manager and Site Manager to ensure full compliance.
  • Facilitate the implementation of safety, health and environmental (SHE) policies and procedures within business units to reduce risk and promote a positive SHE culture.
  • Proactively drive and promote the organisation's behavioural safety approach through site visits, management meetings and forums.
  • Support the successful implementation of the company's SHE management system at site level, including promotion of the system and accurate input of SHE data in line with guidance and agreed timescales.
  • Support SHE line management in implementing all SHE standards and report any issues arising on site or within business units that may impact compliance or SHE resourcing requirements.
  • Act as an advisor to business units during regular SHE Management Reviews, supporting performance assessment and continuous improvement, and assisting with the planning, review and achievement of SHE objectives.
  • Support the business in measuring and monitoring performance against Group and Divisional sustainability objectives and route maps.
  • Maintain a proactive, dynamic approach to promoting and supporting SHE performance across the business.
  • Represent the organisation as a business that effectively manages SHE through engagement with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, industry associations and professional forums.
  • Provide specialist SHE advice and guidance to support the completion of pre-qualification questionnaires and tender documentation.
  • Assist site management in preparing Construction SHE Plans prior to project commencement and review these at monthly safety, health and environmental meetings to plan for upcoming works.
  • Carry out formal SHE reviews on all sites at least monthly to ensure compliance with SHE policies, standards and relevant legislation. Reviews must be thorough, independent, factually accurate and reflect actual site conditions, including forward planning for a minimum of four weeks of upcoming activities.
  • Where practicable, undertake additional informal site visits to provide support, advice and guidance once minimum review requirements have been met, including cross-site or cross-regional visits as directed by the Regional SHE Manager.
  • Where unsafe working practices present a significant risk to safety, health or the environment, ensure work is stopped immediately, inform site and business unit management, and support the identification and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Deliver SHE information and updates to the business through briefings, annual forums, workshops, presentations and induction programmes, as required.
