Job description
The Role

A vacancy exists for a Community Development Worker working with migrant communities in Warwickshire, on a fixed term contract to end of March 2027. You will join a team of community development workers who deliver an ‘Asset Based Community Development’ approach. We believe in building on the strengths of a community, rather than focusing on the deficits.

You will work closely with the council’s migration team and in partnership with residents, groups, and other organisations to maximise and build on the wealth of assets we know people and communities possess. You will enable newly arrived refugees and migrants to take an active role in their successful resettlement into Warwickshire by supporting the development of community-led initiatives involving both communities of new arrivals and the wider community. Our aim is to facilitate the development of locally grown, sustainable solutions that meet people’s needs, developing the capacity of our communities. This is a golden opportunity to make a positive difference to people’s lives.

You will be well supported in your role by the wider Communities & Partnerships team, who are all passionate about their work. As well as many training opportunities available, you will also benefit from our agile working approach. The role may require some limited evening and weekend work to enable successful engagement in the community.

About The Team

The Communities and Partnerships team supports residents and communities by building capacity and resilience, increasing volunteering and social action, facilitating effective partnerships and partnership working, promoting the principles of self-help, early intervention, prevention and strengths-based working, and enabling effective community engagement. We are a countywide service with specific focuses on community development, investing in communities including our management of the Councillors’ Grants Scheme, commissioning of voluntary sector support, advice and equalities services, financial inclusion, voluntary and community sector relationships and coordination of community-led activity across Warwickshire.

Key Requirements

To be successful in this role you’ll need experience of community development work, and experience of working with statutory organisations and voluntary and community groups. It is important you have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and can work effectively in a team as well as using your own initiative. In addition, you’ll need to work in a sympathetic and supportive way to gain the trust of a wide range of people and be a skilled relationship builder who’s great at connecting people. You’ll understand what makes people get involved in their local community, and equally what the potential barriers are which can prevent people from participating.

For further details please see the attached Job Description and Person Specification.
