Job description
Overview

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Clinical Scientist (Radiotherapy Physics)

The closing date is 13 February 2026

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two registered Clinical Scientists to join our Radiotherapy Physics team at Castle Hill Hospital.

You will be part of a skilled multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, patient-centered radiotherapy services to a large and diverse population, while supporting innovation, research, training and service development.

Within the department there are 6 Varian linacs (4 Truebeam and 2 Halcyon) all with SGRT (AlignRT), 2 Siemens Somatom go.Open Pro CT scanners, an Xstrahl superficial unit, a Papillon+ contact radiotherapy system and we are in the process of installing a new Bravos brachytherapy afterloader which will replace our Flexitron.

The department was the first Radiotherapy Physics service to gain UKAS accreditation to the emerging BS70000 MPACE quality standard, evidencing that commitment to delivery of high quality clinical service is a core value of the team, and we continue to maintain ISO9001 certification for the entire Radiotherapy service.

The department supports Radiotherapy which operates 8 am - 8 pm, and the post holder is expected to be flexible in order to support these hours where required, and be flexible to work out of hours where needed.

Main duties of the job

As a Radiotherapy Physicist, you will provide specialist scientific expertise across all areas of radiotherapy physics, including but not limited to treatment planning, QA and dosimetry and brachytherapy. You will contribute to service development, research, audit and training, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and national standards.

The successful applicant will be joining an established team of Healthcare Science professionals, comprising Clinical Scientists and Technologists, and support staff. The team prides itself on high staff retention and has a pragmatic approach to achieving safe and effective service delivery. The department is committed to providing a broad scope for the development of all members of staff and are encouraged to develop areas of expertise and interest within the overall clinical service requirements.
