Job description

Are you a detail-focused, hands-on, Control Systems Engineer with a passion for drones?

Joining us as Control Systems Engineer, you will have an opportunity to support the system analysis, modelling, design and delivery of our UXV navigation co-pilot platform. Our UXV platform operates autonomously in challenging environments, in civil and military use cases.

At Archangel Autonomy, you will be working alongside a fun, forward-thinking experienced team to deliver transformative AI solutions. Our mission is to design and deploy AI technologies that protect, support, and enhance the work of those operating on the front lines: law enforcement, first responders, NGOs, wildlife rangers, and military personnel.

We are proud to be innovators, record breakers, and practical problem solvers. We thrive on big challenges and bold ideas, pushing boundaries to create meaningful impact. Our goal is a safer, more sustainable world, where intelligent machines are not just tools but trusted partners – collaborative, reliable, and ready to assist.

About your role

What you’ll be owning:

  1. Designing, implementing and testing the control systems required for UXV navigation and control
  2. Setting up models, tools and processes to facilitate rapid design, implementation and validation of new features
  3. Continuously improving related systems, processes and tools

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • Excellent understanding of control systems (state estimation, guidance, control, etc.)
  • Experience with simulation of complex dynamic systems
  • Strong understanding of sensor fusion and navigation (EKF etc.)
  • Knowledge of a scripting language (preferably Python)
  • Strong technical and analytical skills, with a logical approach to problem solving and presentation of information
  • Relevant degree in a Maths, Physics or Engineering based subject
  • Eligibility and willingness to undergo future full security clearance (SC)

Bonus if you have:

  • Experience in designing, developing and testing embedded software and hardware control systems for UAV, UXV, autonomous driving or aerospace applications
  • Working knowledge of C/C++
  • Experience working with ROS or robotics sensors (IMU, GPS/GNSS, LIDAR, RADAR, Cameras, etc.)
  • Experience with model-based design and modelling tools such as UML and/or SysML
  • Understanding of state-space control and advanced controller architectures (robust control etc.)

By joining us, you'll have

  • The ability to make a measurable difference in the creation of cutting-edge technology in a rapidly growing start-up
  • Fast-paced environment with a world-class, positive, talented, and high-achieving team
  • Forward-thinking, supportive culture with company off-site strategic alignment
  • World-class growth opportunities and training resources including self-development days
  • Merit-based compensation
  • 5% employer pension contribution
  • 25 days holiday + UK bank holidays
  • Medical insurance
