Salary: £24,084 to £24,701 per annum pro-rata depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Teaching Support Technician within the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, based at our Sutton Bonington Campus. This is a permanent, full‑time role (36.25 hours per week) supporting the delivery of practical teaching sessions for veterinary students.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting the running of the school’s animal facilities, with a particular focus on farm animals, and assisting in the delivery of high‑quality husbandry and welfare practices in line with the University’s gold standard.
  • Ensuring that practical classes, including clinical skills, live animal sessions (small and large), dissection, cadaver surgery, and laboratory‑based teaching are fully resourced and run efficiently.
  • Preparing and clearing materials and equipment, maintaining appropriate stock levels of consumables, and ensuring that all teaching areas remain clean, organised, and safe.
  • Strict compliance with Health and Safety regulations, including the safe disposal of clinical and biohazardous waste.
Qualifications
  • Proactive and adaptable individual with good communication skills, able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of animal husbandry and the principles of biology or anatomy.
  • Physically capable of lifting and moving items over 10 kg.
  • GCSEs (grade C or above) in Maths and English or equivalent, or relevant experience in a similar technical role.
