Salary / Benefits

£23,557 – £26,754 (Pro-Rata) per annum, depending on experience and qualifications. Includes People’s pension, retail and leisure discounts, professional development opportunities, and access to college courses.

37 hours per week.

Contract Type

Fixed term full‑time, fixed until 28 August 2026.

UK‑based contract; right to work in the UK is mandatory; no sponsorship.

About the role

Technician in Animal Management to join the Animal Science department.

  • Support Centre Operations – Assist day‑to‑day running of the Zoological Education Centre, maintaining professional standards.
  • Animal Care & Welfare – Care for farm, pet and exotic species, contribute to enrichment and veterinary tasks.
  • Practical Learning Support – Prepare resources, support teaching staff and students during practical sessions and maintain safe, well‑equipped learning environments.
  • Compliance & Administration – Keep accurate records, prepare for inspections, meet licensing requirements, promote health & safety.
  • Teamwork & Flexibility – Liaise with external organisations, attend meetings, support marketing events and provide weekend/out‑of‑hours cover.
About you
  • Essential Qualifications – Level 3 in Animal Management/Science, GCSE English & Maths (A‑C or equivalent). Willingness to obtain First Aid certification.
  • Relevant Experience & Knowledge – Hands‑on experience with a wide range of species, current vocational experience, and knowledge of UK animal care legislation.
  • Core Skills – Ability to maintain high welfare standards, accurate record‑keeping, effective communication and strong teamwork.
  • Professional Attributes – Reliable, flexible, committed to safeguarding, EDI and College values (Student Focus, High Performance, Respect, Openness, Honesty).
  • Flexibility & Development – Willingness to work evenings/weekends, travel between sites, update skills continuously and provide First Aid cover.
