We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual with ecological experience and a community‑centred approach to fill a six‑month seasonal post as Field Officer, assisting our Project Officer in the delivery of “Plovers in Peril”. The post is based at RSPB Titchwell Marsh but the main site is a 4 km stretch of shingle beach between Snettisham and Heacham on the edge of The Wash.

• Monitor Ringed Plover and Oystercatcher breeding activity.
• Maintain seasonal site fencing, signage and other infrastructure.
• Carry out predator monitoring, including deploying and maintaining trail cameras and performing night shifts to record predator impact.
• Engage daily with beach users to inform, educate and raise awareness of nesting birds and their threats.
• Support a growing volunteer team—assist with inductions, organise events and provide onsite support as needed.
• Build relationships with existing and new partners and collaborators.
• Assist in developing and delivering focused project events that empower local communities.
• Assist with project communications, creating content for blogs and social media.
• Record and report on recreational disturbance at the nesting site.

• Proven experience monitoring breeding birds, including nest monitoring.
• Practical aptitude for installing and maintaining site infrastructure such as fencing and signage.
• Experience with predator monitoring using trail cameras.
• Experience supporting and leading volunteer teams.
• Confident public engagement with diplomacy and openness, including with opposing viewpoints.
• Experience working with communities and building strong connections.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to engage audiences across various platforms, including social media.
• Understanding of safe working practices outdoors and willingness to work in all weathers.
• Good record‑keeping skills and accurate data handling.
• Proficient IT user; comfortable with Microsoft Office.
• Proven time‑management and organisational skills.
• Confidence to work independently using own initiative.
• Full UK driving licence and own transport.

• Experience in nest monitoring for beach‑nesting bird species.
• Ecological knowledge of coastal wildlife and shingle communities.

This role will involve lone working, remote locations and flexible weekend, early‑morning and night working. The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising, depending on business needs at the end of the contract term.
