Portlethen Academy would welcome applications from a Teacher of French who has a passion for delivering high quality learning and teaching and is enthusiastic about supporting the well-being of our young people.

We offer National Qualifications in French and Spanish at National 4 to Advanced Higher levels. We also offer a range of progression pathways for our young people through Languages for Life and Work Courses at SCQF Level 4 and Level 5.

The Modern Languages Faculty is committed to collegiate working, peer support, providing leadership opportunities and employing a range of teaching approaches to ensure the best outcomes for our young people.

There is a responsibility for the post holder to demonstrate a commitment to quality service delivery through continuous improvement for the benefit of the Service and the organisation.

The preferred working days are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Fixed Term for a period not exceeding 5 January 2026.

Requirements

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. A confirmed offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Salary for this post will be in accordance with SNCT agreements. Applicants must be or eligible to be fully GTC Scotland registered. Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

  • Teach assigned Spanish and French classes in BGE and Senior Phase.
  • Plan, prepare, correct, and record appropriate work for pupils both individually and in partnership with class teachers.
  • Set and maintain targets for pupils as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the preparation of pupils for internal and external assessments.
  • Help learners to feel safe, nurtured, and able to progress positively through their education.
  • Support the planning and delivery of inclusive and flexible strategies tailored to learners' needs.
  • Work effectively as part of the wider teaching team and enhance already established systems and processes.
  • Work closely with colleagues and stakeholders to move forward with key whole-school Improvement Priorities.
  • Undertake appropriate and agreed continuing professional development.
