Job Title:Specialty Doctor in Adult Psychiatry
Grade:Specialty Doctor
Location: Manchester, Greater Manchester
Working Hours: 40 hours per week
Rate:Competitive, to be discussed upon application

We are seeking an enthusiastic Specialty Doctor in Adult Psychiatry to join our NHS client based in Manchester, Greater Manchester. This vacancy is available on a locum basis for the successful candidate to start immediately for a short-term contract.

What will your responsibilities be?

As a Specialty Doctor, you will ensure high-quality first-line medical care for our inpatients, liaise effectively with external professionals and carers, and provide written and oral evidence for Hospital Managers’ and Tribunal hearings. You will work towards safe discharges, preparing necessary documentation, and be a valued member of the multidisciplinary team. You will ensure adequate handover to colleagues, seek collateral history, and complete discharge letters and reports as required.

You will be part of a group of Consultant Psychiatrists sharing the on-call rota. Your responsibilities include preparing hearing reports, providing medical reports, attending CPA meetings, and offering oral evidence under supervision. You will contribute to service development through clinical governance activities, audits, research, and teaching. You will work effectively with colleagues to ensure appropriate medical cover, participate in learning activities and supervision, deliver staff training, and share responsibility for taking bloods and ECGs. You will provide cover for other specialty doctors, liaise with GPs and practice nurses, offer emergency treatment, and conduct psychiatric assessments to determine appropriate care levels. You will also arrange clinical tests and follow up on results promptly.
