Role Specification

Job Title: Shift Engineer (Mechanical Bias) Location: Leeds Oncology Project
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor

General Overview

Join a dynamic maintenance team delivering essential services to ensure the hospital operates at the highest standards. This role involves:

  • Working on a 4-on / 4-off shift pattern
  • Providing a customer-facing, responsive maintenance service for Leeds Oncology Wing
  • Performing reactive and planned maintenance tasks to exceptional standards
  • Offering technical guidance to team members
  • Training to undertake Authorised Person duties
  • Managing a small shift team of Maintenance Craftsmen and Assistants
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support the shift team
  • Maintain, repair, test, and inspect building, mechanical, and electrical systems
  • Participate in a 24/7/365 rotating shift pattern
  • Provide cover for absent colleagues
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, NHS, Trust, and internal guidelines
  • Maintain and repair systems including:
    • Heating and domestic water services
    • Electrical services (lighting, power)
    • Air handling units
    • LV electrical distribution and switchgear
    • Emergency standby generators
    • Fire alarms and emergency lighting
    • Electrical control systems
    • Building Management Systems
  • Maintain records and service reports
  • Assist with minor installation and upgrade works
  • Undertake training and act as Competent or Authorised Person
  • Liaise with other healthcare projects as required
  • Perform overtime when necessary
Qualifications & Experience
  • Time‑served engineer with minimum 3 years post‑apprenticeship experience
  • Healthcare experience desirable but not essential
  • Cross‑trade experience advantageous
Package
  • Salary: £33,900 + 15% shift allowance (£5,085) = £38,985 per annum or 15‑30 an hour
