Senior Project Manager

An opportunity has opened for a Senior Project Manager in our SSE North Scotland business to lead a number of project managers who themselves lead a number of small teams installing and constructing electrical power distribution and transmission systems from 11kV to 132kV. The role focuses on delivering safe, profitable, timely, high workmanship quality and fit-for-purpose networks for the customer, while promoting the company in a positive light at all times.

While managing their own projects, the Senior Project Manager will supervise and direct a number of PMs as they provide the management, control and execution of diverse electrical network projects running concurrently. Projects may include the installation of ground-mounted and structure-mounted power system components, cable systems, switchgear, transformers, busbars, relay panels and associated equipment in substations operating at up to 132 kV.

Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the Operations Manager, lead multiple project managers and teams to execute duties professionally, build team and customer confidence, and contribute to the growth of Projects Business. First-line problem solver.
  • Provide leadership, drive, discipline, and support to Project Managers and teams through direction, guidance, advice, support, commitment, effort and dedication as required to direct reports, other team members and customers.
  • Work within all set procedures and ensure Health and Safety is the top priority. Undertake the site supervisor role when required, in accordance with CDM regulations as required; may include control of Customer appointed contractors and/or company-appointed subcontract labour.
  • Efficiently execute the project management role on a number of projects running concurrently while managing the team of Project Managers. Oversee tasks allocated to others to achieve effective project delivery. Regularly appraise direct reports to develop skills, knowledge, and performance.
  • Resource control: organise, control and deploy materials/equipment/labour resources for upcoming works across multiple projects.
  • Maintain good commercial awareness and complete valuations against a defined scope.
  • Ensure safety and maintenance of all company property issued; ensure items are routinely PAT or calibration tested and flag any items not serviceable in a timely manner.
  • Produce as-built records, test results, updated drawings and project reports.
What we’re looking for
  • HNC/Degree in Electrical Engineering (and/or time served)
  • Good operational knowledge of electrical power distribution systems.
  • Site safety passport and/or experience of working on CDM sites.
  • SSSTS or SMSTS desirable, not essential.
  • Possession of SSE DNO authorisation to receive and cancel PTW (or equivalent DNO authorisation, e.g., SPEN, NPg, UKPN).
