Overview

FWAG SW provides environmental advice to farmers and stakeholders on a variety of agricultural, conservation, soil and water management and future farm resilience issues. We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Senior Farm Environment Adviser to join our Somerset team. You will have a broad range of skills and experience including practical experience, either on farm or in a nature conservation setting, and can engage with, and help facilitate, our farmers and landowners in a knowledgeable and approachable way.

This post provides high level advice in a whole-farm context considering habitat and species conservation, diffuse pollution mitigation, soil management, nutrient management, compliance with legislation and regulation, protection of archaeological features and landscape value – all as part of a profitable farm business. Additionally, you will:

Responsibilities
  • Prepare agri-environment and other grant applications
  • Manage and contribute to the development and delivery of projects, within time and budget
  • Engage, maintain and facilitate existing partnerships with other organisations
  • Enjoy training, mentoring and helping to develop those with less experience
Qualifications and Experience
  • Extensive experience with agri-environment schemes including relevant policies and legislation, the provision of competent advice and the completion of grant and scheme applications
  • Project management experience involving several funding sources and multiple stakeholders
  • A detailed understanding of, and passion for, the countryside coupled with an awareness of the interactions of farm operations, the landscape, habitats, water and air quality and the local history
