Mott MacDonald Bentley is recruiting for a Principal Process Engineer to join the Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA).
The 330km Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) Project by Anglian Water is under construction and will be completed during AMP8. Beyond this, we have a further 260km of water transfer pipelines and associated infrastructure to be delivered in AMP8.
What will you be doing as our new Principal Process Engineer?
- Provide innovative designs that deliver value for money and act as a proactive problem-solver by applying engineering principles.
- Lead by reviewing the mandate, preparing a scope, methodology, programme, and resource estimate for the design stage of the project, and support during construction.
- Embed within the SPA delivery team, responsible for a section of the design output, liaising with mechanical and electrical engineers, Design Leads, and other disciplines.
- Work alongside the Process Lead to develop and understand the system-wide performance of pipelines and assets, and their interaction with existing AWS systems.
- Develop water quality design proposals, agree these with the client, and provide information to the production and delivery teams for key scheme gateways.
Key responsibilities:
- Design of process systems for clean water pumping stations, dosing packages, and control systems, incorporating complex hydraulics and system control.
- Perform process calculations to produce datasheets or requirement specifications for projects.
- Handle hydraulics, unit processes, pump calculations, capacity assessments, water quality, control philosophies, SCADA, and system commissioning.
- Support the Process Discipline Head in promoting health & safety, ensuring designs comply with CDM Regulations, standards, and codes of practice.
- Ensure all technical work meets standards and specifications.
- Maintain quality and consistency of process engineering documents.
- Work with leads to ensure technical deliverables are checked and approved.
- Communicate effectively across levels to promote technical excellence.
- Coordinate with other engineers and discipline heads to ensure interface management and share best practices.
- Liaise with Technical Managers to provide guidance and explore opportunities for technical innovation.
Skills, experience, and behaviors:
- Degree in water/wastewater process science or engineering.
- Postgraduate qualification such as CIWEM or MSc.
- Membership of a professional body.
- Experience in process engineering.
- Benefit from a Process/Mechanical D&B bias supporting SPA’s lean project delivery ethos.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven problem-solving skills and IT capability.
