Overview

First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Mobile Engineer (Electrical) on behalf of one of our clients.

Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel however all candidates will be given due consideration.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • The field engineers are responsible for commissioning, maintaining, repairing and occasionally modifying power protection products.
  • Product range consists of, but is not limited to, battery backed rotary UPS systems, diesel UPS systems with both battery and kinetic energy storage. Static UPS systems, static and rotary frequency converters including 400Hz aircraft ground power equipment.
  • Responsible for ensuring that they arrive at site on time, with all of the necessary tools, spares and equipment required to complete the assigned task. The field engineers are allocated a task from head office and are given all of the job details, they are then expected to ensure that they are properly prepared for the visit.
  • A high degree of flexibility is required to enable you to keep pace with the ever changing demands of customer base. Must occasionally be prepared to work away at short notice. Some of our customers require out of hours work so some night work may be required.
  • The field service team provides a 24 / 7 on call service which is manned by 2 engineers every day of the year. The on call duty lasts for 7 days with a gap of between 4 and 5 weeks between duties. When on call the engineer is required to be available to attend customer’s sites at any time of day or night if required to do so. New engineers are expected to get up to speed quickly and will be required to join the on call list as soon as possible and no later than 6 months after their employment starts.
Skills and Qualifications
  • The candidate should ideally have a minimum of ONC, HNC, HND or equivalent in Electronic / Electrical engineering with, if possible, a bias towards power electronics. Knowledge of regulator and logic control systems, rotating machines (Synchronous, Asynchronous motors) power rectifiers and inverter drives would be an advantage.
  • The candidate must be a well-presented confident person with good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be flexible and cope with change at short notice, should be prepared to work regular weekends and occasional nights and be available to travel countrywide and occasionally to Europe, they must also be prepared to occasionally stay away from home.
  • Must be a good self-learner, product training is given but a lot of emphasis is placed in on the job learning with guidance from more experienced members of the service team.
  • Must be able to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Must be a good self-organiser and will be expected to manage time, equipment, company vehicle and reports and be able to present paperwork and electronic submissions within specified timeframes.
  • Must be computer literate and be able to navigate directory structures and use standard MS type office packages.
  • Must have good practical, technical and problem solving skills and be able to use basic hand tools and assorted electrical instruments and test equipment (DVMs, Clamp meters, Insulation testers and Oscilloscopes).
  • Service engineers visit many sensitive financial and government establishments where security requirements can be very onerous.
  • Due to the security requirements the candidate must be a British citizen.
  • Screening as part of clearance processes is required by some customers so once employed candidates may be asked to submit to credit checks and unspent criminal conviction checks through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
  • The candidate must hold a clean full UK driving licence.
