Multi-skilled Receptionist Required for GP Practice in Middlesbrough

Crossfell Health Centre is looking for a mature, enthusiastic, multi-skilled Receptionist, with a flexible, calm, compassionate approach to join our team.

Essential qualities in our ideal candidate would be good teamwork, flexibility, and the ability to work in a variety of roles and under pressure. The nature of the work demands excellent people skills, confidence in using IT, SystemOne, and a willingness to be flexible. You would be working in a supportive environment, but an ability to remain calm under pressure is also necessary.

Experience in general practice (or similar health setting) is ideal but not essential as training will be given to the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job include supporting the daily clinical work through:

  • Call handling, managing appointments, care navigation for patients, and general administration
  • Facilitating timely processing of documents, including scanning
  • Ensuring prescriptions are processed accurately
  • Ensuring clinic rooms are kept stocked
  • Managing the appointment system efficiently

To achieve this, you should have:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • A professional telephone manner
  • The ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Be a team player yet show initiative
  • Flexibility to cover for sickness and holidays at short notice if required

The Crossfell clinical team comprises 3 Partner GPs, 4 Salaried GPs, 3 practice nurses, and 2 HCAs, serving a list of 9,300 patients. We are supported by a long-established team of receptionists, secretaries, and management staff dedicated to delivering compassionate, person-centered care.

The practice is friendly and accessible, with democratic processes and sound governance.

Job responsibilities

This Job Description is not exhaustive:

  • Two full-time positions
  • Greet patients and visitors face-to-face and/or on the telephone, being courteous, polite, and helpful
  • Book, cancel, and amend patient appointments accurately using the practice system and procedures
  • Respond to and/or redirect patient requests, written or verbal, using established procedures
  • Record messages accurately and pass them to the appropriate team member
  • Book patients into appropriate clinics based on their needs and procedures
  • Produce and distribute prescriptions according to procedures
  • Send District Nursing/phlebotomy requests via the internet
  • Refrain from giving clinical advice without consulting a GP or Nurse first
  • Process mail using established procedures
  • Ensure accurate scanning onto patient notes
  • Maintain supplies of medical equipment in GP/Nurse rooms
  • Ensure Pathlab results are processed correctly and attached to patient notes
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Secure and open the building at the start and close at the end of each day
  • Respect and maintain privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times
